The qur’an “situates itself in relation to other ‘books’, to other ‘scriptures’.

It clearly expresses

an awareness of divine revelation as a chronological sequence, a series of time-sepcific

disclosures for particular peoples.” (3), recognizing the revelations of God to Abraham,

Ishamel, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and Jesus. “But recognition and confirmation do nos equal

perpetual validation. Among its strongest self-declaratives are the Qur’an’s assertions of its

overriding preeminence, its utter finality.” (4)
