The Common Man

I am the common man.


I am the victim of tyranny, oppression and
exploitation. My feet are shackled to the ground,
and yet I soar high and touch the sky. My
shoulders are stooped with the burden of family,
and yet I fly high.
I am the rugged rocky foundation of society.
My surface is ugly, muddy, and yet I keep the
minute rocks above me polished. My edges are
worn away by rain and by wind, and yet I keep the
tiny pebbles above me safe.
I am slaughtered at the mercy of those above me.
My head is crushed with the societal pressure to
perform, and yet I exist. My mind is slaughtered,
beheaded, and yet I survive.
I am enslaved, imprisoned and guillotined. Society
sucks out life from me, like a dementor…
