1.  Introduction

This operation manual describes the procedure of installation, upgrade and deletion

of the BALTECH-Expert software. The information is intended both for end users

and for specialists who perform configuration and administration of the databases.
Besides the compulsory components, The BALTECH-Expert software is compatible

with additional applications that are installed and set up additionally to facilitate

work with the BALTECH-Expert software, e.g. a text editor for report editing.

The BALTECH-Expert software works with the database which is managed by

the MySQL Database Management System (DBMS). For accessing the database

management system the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) is used.

To connect the Baltech instruments to your computer an additional driver installation

can be required.

During the installation it is important to observe the installation procedure.

BALTECH Expert should be installed after the MySQL DBMS and ODBC driver are
installed and set.

1.1.  Structure of the operation manual

The section 2 describes the quick setup of the required components using a

command script. This installation method is preferable for users with basic skills in

MS Windows operating system when the software is installed on a computer for the
first time.

The section 3 “Step-by-step installation of the DBMS and ODBC driver” contains the

detailed information on the step-by-step installation and setup of the MySQL and

ODBC driver. This installation method can be used if it is necessary to reinstall the

previously installed components and to set up the configuration parameters. The

installation and configuration of the database server should be carried out by a

database administrator.

The section 4 describes the procedure of installation, upgrade and deletion of

the BALTECH-Expert software. It also contains the information on how to run the

software.

1.2.  Content of the installation medium

The BALTECH instruments are supplied with the USB-disk or CD which contains the
installation package of the BALTECH-Expert software and the installation files of

other components.

The upgrade file for the BALTECH-Expert software can be provided electronically.
The required installation files will be located in the archived file. The installation
files of the optional components may be removed from the archived file.

The figures in the names of the software components denote the current version
of the component and can differ from those specified in this manual.
The installation medium contains:
1) The software compulsory components are located in the MySQL folder:

• The script for the quick setup of the database server and ODBC driver

(command file Install.cmd).

• MySQL (installation file «mysql-5.5.54-win32.msi»)

• MySQL ODBC driver (installation files «mysql-connector-odbc-

3.51.30-win32.msi» or «mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.30-winx64.

msi» depending on the version of the operaing system)

2) The installation package of the BALTECH-Expert software is located in the

BALTECH folder:

• The Installation Wizard (executive file «Setup_

BALTECH‑Expert_2.1.2102.exe»)

3) The drivers for connecting the instruments are located in the Drivers folder.

4) The auxiliary components facilitating the work with the BALTECH-Expert software
are located in the Misc folder.

5) The manuals are located in the Docs folder.

1.3.  Hardware requirements

The following requirements must be met to ensure the correct installation and

smooth operation of the BALTECH-Expert software:

1) The network is required for the distributed work, when the database server is
installed on a separate computer.
2) Required free space does not allow for increase size of database long-term. The
user must self-dependent control the availability of free space.

1.4.  Requirements to the users

The user should have the basic skills in MS Windows operating system. Installation

and reinstallation of the software components related to the databases, configuration

of the distributed work as well as database archiving and backup require advanced

skills such as administration of the Windows operation system and database server.

The user who has only basic skills in the MS Windows operation system should

address to the IT engineer.

2.  Quick installation and configuration of the

database server

2.1. Preparation

Make sure that your computer meets the above mentioned requirements.

If the BALTECH-Expert software or the MySQL database management system have

been already installed on your computer, a new installation with the script is not
required.

The further description assumes that the compulsory components are NOT installed

and the user registers in the Windows system with the administration rights.

The installation of MySQL with the install.cmd script will automatically set all the

basic parameters and settings required for the software operation.

1. It is not recommended to run the script using other file managers (e.g. Far
or Total Commander that have their own command shell) and network drives as
during the installation the MS Windows current global settings must be changed.
2. You can run the script from the MS Windows command line.
3. When working in the MS Windows (not applicable to MS Windows XP) the
current parameters of the User Account Control (UAC) may prompt for permission
to run the installation packages during the script realization. In this case the user
should confirm the installation of the software.

2.2.  Quick installation of the MySQL components

1. Insert the CD (or other data medium) with the BALTECH-Expert distribution

package.

2. Open the MySQL folder and run the Install.cmd file.

3. Wait till the MySQL and MySQL ODBC driver are installed and set up. Then install

the BALTECH-Expert software as described in the section.

4. In this case the section 3 should be missed.

The database server is configured automatically with the following settings of the
administration access to the databases:
Login: root
Password: root

3.1. Preparation

Make sure that your computer meets the above requirements. The user should

register in the MS Windows system with the administration rights.

When working in the MS Windows (not applicable to MS Windows XP) the current
parameters of the User Account Control (UAC) may prompt for permission for
run of the installation packages during the script realization. In this case the user
should confirm the installation of the software.

3.2.  Installation of MySQL

When installing the ODBC on a new computer we recommend that you use the

installation method described in the section 1.

Below is a detailed description of the server installation.

If you install the MySQL version other than the one which is delivered with the
BALTECH-Expert software, make sure that the version is not lower than 5.0.The
version higher than 5.5. may fail to operate in the MS Windows XP.

1. Insert the CD (or other data medium) with the BALTECH-Expert software.

2. Open the MySQL folder and run the «mysql-5.5.54-win32.msi» file.

3. The welcome window will appear. Press Next to go to the next step.

If you run the Installation Wizard again, for example, after the server has been
automatically installed with the script (see Section 1), you will be offered to change,
repair or delete the MySQL. These options are described below.

4. Mark the field “I accept the terms in the License Agreement”. Press Next to go

to the next step.

5. Press Typical to perform the setup with the default setting.

6. Press Install to install the server.

7. During the installation a window MySQL Enterprise will appear. Close this window

by pressing Next or «x».

8. Press Finish. We recommend that you mark the field “Launch the MySQL Instance

Configuration Wizard” to go to the configuration and run of the MySQL server.

The installation is completed. The configuration of the MySQL server is described in

the next section.

3.3.  Upgrade, deletion and reinstallation of MySQL

If MySQL version 5.0 or higher is already installed on your computer a new

installation of MySQL IS NOT REQUIRED. Make sure that the path to the executable
files of MySQL is written in the system.

If the installed version differs from version on the CD (for example, the version
5.0. is already installed, while the CD contains the 5.5 version) then the installation
of MySQL from the CD is not recommended.
This section describes the repeated run of the installation file with the same version

as has been already installed on the computer. The sub versions can differ. For

example, a version 5.5.32 is installed, while a new file version is 5.5.45.

1. The welcome window will appear. Press Next to go to the next step.

2. To change the installed parameters press Change. To fix issues or to upgrade

press Repair. To delete the MySQL server press Remove.

3. Next steps depend on the selected option and are not described in this section.

Upon completion press Finish to exit the Setup Wizard.

3.4.  Configuration of the MySQL server

To work with the BALTECH-Expert software the MySQL database server should be

set up properly. The MySQL Wizard runs right after the DBMS is installed.

If you need to perform the configuration separately, run the

MySQLInstanceConfig.exe executable file. In case of typical installation of

the database server MySQL in the 32-bit version of MS Windows the file is

located in the “C:\ Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin” folder.

To configure the server perform the following:

1. Press Next to go to the next step.

2. After the MySQL server has been configured and run, the Configuration Wizard

offers two options: reconfiguration or configuration removal. For initial configuration

this step is missing. To remove the configuration it is necessary to select Remove

Instance and perform further steps, exit the Configuration Wizard and reload the

computer. This procedure is not described in details.

3. For the initial configuration we recommend that you select the standard

configuration. Mark the field Standard Configuration and press Next to go to the

next step.

4. Mark the field Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH.

Be sure to tick the item «Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH». Press «Next»
go to the next step.

5. Enter the password and confirm the password.

It is necessary to set the administrative password for work with the database
server. If the configuration of the database server has been made before the old
password should be entered into the Current root password field.

1) If the configuration has been made before during the script execution (see
Section 1), then the password is already set. Enter the “root” password into the
Current root password field.
2) We recommend that you use the “root” password.
3) If the server configuration is made to enable the work with the server via the
network, mark the field Enable root access from remote machines.

The password should be entered in the lowercase letters. The letters are not
displayed during the password input, therefore make sure that the proper keyboard
case is selected.

6. Press Execute to configure and run the database server with the specified settings.

7. Press Finish.

The configuration and run of the MySQL database server have been successfully

done.

3.5.  MySQL ODBC driver installation

1. Insert the CD (or other data medium) with the BALTECH-Expert software.

2. Open the MySQL folder and run the «mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.30-

win32.msi» or «mysql-connector-odbc-3.51.30-winx64.msi» depending on

the version of the operating system.

3. The welcome window will appear. Press Next to go to the next step.

1) If you run the Installation Wizard again, for example, after the driver has
been automatically installed with the script (see Section 1),you will be offered to
change, repair or delete the driver. These options are not described in this manual.
2) The work with the BALTECH-Expert software has been tested only with the
ODBC driver version 3.51. The upgrade may result in failure in operation of the
software.
4. Select Typical and press Next to go to the next step.

5. Press Install to install the driver with the default settings.

6. Press Finish to exit the Wizard.

The MySQL ODBC driver is successfully installed!

4.  Installation of the BALTECH-Expert software

4.1. Preparation

Make sure that your computer meets the above requirements. Further description
assumes that the user registers in the MS Windows system with the administration

rights.

When working in MS Windows (not applicable to MS Windows XP) the current

parameters of the User Account Control (UAC) may prompt for permission to run
the installation packages during the script realization. In this case the user should
confirm the installation of the software.

The following components should be already installed before the installation of

the BALTECH-Expert software: 1) MySQL database management system and 2)
MySQL ODBC driver.

If you upgrade the software, before running the installer run the BALTECH-Expert
and make the backup copy of the database. Depending on the version of the
software to be installed the conversion of the existing database may be required
to enable the smooth operation of the software with the new functions. Such
conversion is not made automatically. For this address to the software developers.

4.2.  Step-by-step installation of the BALTECH-Expert

1. Insert the CD (or other data medium) with the BALTECH-Expert installation

package.

2. Open the BALTECH folder and run the «Setup_BALTECH‑Expert_2.1.2102.exe»

file.

3. Select the language. The English language is selected by default. Press Next to

go to the next step.

Press Next to go to the next step.

4. After choosing a language the installer checks MySQL installation. The table

below shows messages that will be displayed if there are any problems with MySQL

and recommedation how to solve this problem.

In case of detection of these problems the installation of BALTECH-Expert should be

interrupted and the recommendation should be completed.

An exception is using BALTECH-Expert with a remote MySQL server. In this case

installation can be continued without paying attention on the message.

Message Recomendation

10. If you select the Minimal installation, the test database will not be created.

This option can be selected if you upgrade the software. For the new installation we

recommend that you select the Typical installation. Custom type of the installation

allows to enable/disable technologies and to choose required components.

Select the type of installation and press Next.

If you select the Custom installation, the next step will be the selection of

installation components. The user can cancel the test database installation

(TestDB option), add or exclude the possibility of connecting devices and

additional program components within different technologies. Press «+»

to open pop-down menu, select or disable required options. The image

below shows the selection of options for Vibration technology, RealTime

installation and connection with BALTECH VP-3470. If no component of the

technology is selected, this technology will be disabled in BALTECH-Expert.

11. Press Next to go to the next step.

13. Wait till the installation process is completed and press Finish.

The BALTECH-Expert is successfully installed!

4.3.  How to run the software

During the installation the Setup Wizard creates a test database (if the Typical

installation was selected) and registers it as a resource of the ODBC data with the

RESOURCE name.

For work with the remote server it is necessary to register the resource. The work
of the software with the database is performed via the ODBC driver.

The main run file is located in the installation directory:

wxBaltech-Expert.exe.

To run the software the following parameters are required:

• username (root is on default)

• password (root is on default)

• name of the data resource (RESOURCE is on default)

The shortcut is located on the desktop.

When running the software by using the shortcut the below window appears:

Enter the username and password. Press OK.

To set up the software work with the remote database server it is necessary to set

up the database resource:

«C:\Program Files\BALTECH‑Expert\wxBALTECH‑Expert.exe» -d resource -u root -p root.

Explicit user and password setting in the tag line reduces the safety of working
with the database. Such launch is not recommended when working with corporate
database server.

To set up the software work with the remote database server it is necessary to set

up the database resource:

1. Open the MS Windows control panel and go to Administrative Tools.

2. Run the administration utility ODBC Data Sources and go to the tab System DNS.

3. Select the data resource with the RESOURCE name and press Configure.

4. Enter the hostname (where the MySQL database server is run) into the Server

field.

5. If during the set up of the remote server other username and password were

used, they should be entered.

4.4. Additional executable files

Besides the main executable file there are the following files in the installation

directory:

1) wxChartView – program for graphic data view

1) wxRealTime – program for real-time data analysis

To view the archive data it is necessary to run the wxChartView program with the

-a (--archive) parameter . This program can be also run directly from the BALTECH

Expert software when viewing the historical data. The wxRealTime program can be
used to connect the BALTECH VP-3470 vibrometer-balancer for the data acquisition

control in real time.

4.5.  Additional information of DBMS setup

On default during the installation of the MySQL version 5.5 or lower, the maximum

size of the record is 1 mb. This parameter should be increased to enable the storage

of the infrared images taken from the infrared cameras with the 640x480 resolution.

Open the my.ini file which is located in the folder where the MySQL was installed

(e.g. «C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\» ) and after [mysqld]

insert :max_allowed_packet=4M.

During the installation of the MySQL server using the script, necessary changes

will be made automatically. If the server was installed separately, edit the server

initialization file.

Restart the MySQL server (for example by reloading the computer).

5.  Auxiliary components

The auxiliary components are located in the Misc folder on the CD with the BALTECH-

Expert software. These components are designed to improve the work with the

BALTECH-Expert software:
The auxiliary components are:

1) LibreOffice_5.3.4_Win_x64.msi and LibreOffice_5.3.4_Win_x86.msi (to install

LibreOffice),

2) SumatraPDF-3.1.2-install.exe and SumatraPDF-3.1.2-64-install.exe (to view

documents in the .pdf),

3) Proton.oxt (to install LibreOffice, it is designed to save the reports from the

BALTECH-Expert software in the PDF).
