Lesson Idea Name: Four Productive Resources

Content Area: Social Studies
Grade Level(s): 3rd
Content Standard Addressed:
Define and give examples of the four types of productive resources.

Technology Standard Addressed:

Gather, evaluate, and organize quality information from multiple sources.
Selected Technology Tool:
☒ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☐ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☐ Phone ☐ Tablet (such as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☐ Teacher-Paced ☒ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☐ Understanding ☐ Applying ☒ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Prior to the SRT activity, students will learn about the four productive resources and how these categories
relate to real life resources. They will learn about what defines the different types of resources and makes
them different from each other. The activities prior to this were worksheets and readings about productive
resources with comprehension questions to test their knowledge.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation

☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Students will answer the questions that are being asked by the quiz create on Socrative’s website. They will
use computers to access this website and quiz. The activity is led by the questions and the students, meaning
it will take as long as they need it to. Most likely, the quiz will not take more than 30 minutes to complete as it
is only 10 questions. The teacher will be there to help ESOL students and students with disabilities with their
quizzes.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
This assessment is meant to prepare students for an upcoming summative assignment. Therefore, giving
them the correct answers will help them master the topic and clear up misconceptions and confusion that the
students may have. Without clearing this up, they may think their wrong answers are correct and it will reflect
on to their summative assessment.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After this SRT activity, student misconceptions can be clarified. The answers to this assessment will help guide
the instructor towards what the biggest misconceptions are so they can work on clarifying them before the
summative assessment that includes this topic. After, students can be divided into groups with students of
the same struggles. They can work on an assignment that makes them deep dive into the area of topic they
are confused on, allowing them to become experts.
How will the data be used?
Student answers will be collected on the “results” page on Socrative’s website. These results will then be
broken down on an Excel spreadsheet. These results will be used by instructor to address the weaknesses of
the students for differentiated lessons. The information will also be used a formative grade. This grade can be
shared with the parents of the student, but it is more important the student is aware of their grade in order
to monitor their progress. From here, the class will go over the quiz and the correct answers. The instructor
will use the wrong answers of the students to place them into a small group that will focus on one of the four
recourses that they struggled on the most. This activity will help them clear up misconceptions they may
have.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
I hope this will help students learn as it has a variety of types of questions and covers important information
about the standard. This type of quiz is new to me, but provides a way to receive results, which I feel will
benefit both the student and I.
Reflective Practice:
I feel like this activity can positively impact student learn as it provides an opportunity for them to quiz and
clarify any misconceptions that they may have. This lesson is meant to be in the midst of a unit of study and

to quiz their ongoing knowledge prior to a summative assessment. Prior to this summative assessment, I think
using technology tools like Quizlet to provide students with a place to learn on their own time could be
helpful to them.
