A naso-oropharyngeal swab was collected from 18-year-old female patient Nida Ansari on September 29, 2021 and tested for SARS CoV-2 RNA. The test results were negative for COVID-19 virus as the COVID-19 RNA was not detected. The note explained that negative results do not rule out COVID-19 infection and multiple specimens may be needed over time to detect the virus. It also listed possible reasons for false negative results and advised consulting the referring physician for follow-up.

Note:-
ICMR registration number: HEDIALLUP
Negative results do not exclude 2019-nCoV infection and should not be used as the sole basis for treatment or other patient management decisions. Optimum specimen types and timing for peak viral levels during infections caused by 2019-nCoV have not been determined. Collection of multiple specimens (types and time points) from the same patient may be necessary to detect the virus. A false negative result may occur if a specimen isimproperly collected, transported or handled. False negative results may also occur if amplification inhibitors are present in the specimen or if inadequate numbers of organisms are present in the specimen. Covid-19 Test conducted as per protocol ICMR/GOI. Kindly consult referring Physician/Authorized Govt. hospital for appropriate follow-up. Inconclusive result specimen will be repeated.
