Planning a Fit for Purpose Production Logging :

Production logging has been a key surveillance tool in the oil industry that served different disciplines, in
many cases different zonation is produced commingling and several Production logs are run across the
life of the well to figure the zonal contribution, this is not the end of story, the results are reflected on
the reserve estimate of different zones which is a decision factor for the future of a field, in a growing up
offshore field, wells go more deviated, higher water cut, lower rate and become challenging to available
industry production logging tools.

Although Production logging tools vary from center point measurement that fits for vertical well
application, to array tools which performs good at horizontal sections, still there is a grey area in
between which challenges application of different tools, in this area we have to respect the downhole
flow conditions which are not favorable for tool measurement.

Gulf of Suez is a historical major oil production area in Egypt, offshore environment is adding complexity
to different surveillance tools, a recent study was done to evaluate the production logs in the last five
years and came up with recommended practices to plan a fit for purpose Production log.

The paper summarizes the common practices in gulf of Suez for Selection of sensors , Deployment
technique , timing of the surveillance & common interpretation challenges .
