PEOPLE’S PRINCESS

1997. The year Diana, Princess of Wales died. A time when the British
people found themselves shedding tears, sleeping in the street and pulling
out their hair for someone they never knew. She was always physically warm
and was never afraid to show her feelings. Her weaknesses and
transgressions only made people love her even more.

SILENT GRIEF
Given the circumstances, Queen Elizabeth II chose to remain quiet
and away from this “personal event”. A contained pain and a silent grief were
the best option for her in that moment. But the population and the Palace
servants, as well as the Prime Minister and her son – Prince Charles, Diana’s
ex-husband− did not accept this silence very well.

HEARTLESS
The Prime Minister has always looked at the Queen as someone cold,
old-fashioned and war-torn. Until he had the opportunity to be closer to her
and learn about her principles, the way she sees the world and the British
government, since she became queen at such a young age.

REGRET
Back then, hunting was something people liked to do for fun or to relax
and spend time with family and friends. We can see a lot of animal heads
hanging on the wall as a decoration. In one of the scenes, we can observe
the Queen trying to push away a deer so it does not get killed and that
somehow changed a feeling inside her.

DUTY FIRST PERSONAL SECOND

After a chaotic process, she finally accepted a huge funeral for Diana
to please the people. It is easy to notice that Elizabeth II was very hard on
herself, always duty first. “Nowadays people want glamour and tears and grand
performance. I’m not very good at this. I’d never have been. I prefer to keep my feelings to

myself. Foolishly I believed I was what people wanted for the queen” .
