Elite Muslims have enjoyed and benefited from the education they gained, while the low

status ones were differentiated and disfavored. Jafaar made sure to distance himself from the world
he describes as “blue blood.” His status sets him apart from Dayang-Dayang and he knows enough to
separate the world of the datus’ astanas, the palaces. Now, in the reality of our society, the “blue
blood” could signify the aristocrat’s estate, the high society’s world. Whereas, the astana implies to
be the place where they, the unprivileged sector in the society, is trying to fit in. Astanas are the
positions they are situated and forced to act as a servant.
