You have been asked to participate in a strategic planning exercise representing the
laboratory for a multi-site health system. Your hospital has had traditional approach to
managing the organization. The health system desires to have a fresh look at all aspects
of organization
The external factors to be considered in a laboratory that influences its operation and
structure are as follows: the role of the government in providing financial support to
healthcare facility plays a vital role in order for the latter to be equipped with accurate
and precised equipment as well as to properly compensate the healthcare workers.
Another external factor that influences the operation and structure of the laboratory is the
environmental system because it can have an influence or a direct impact on the operating
process.
3. What are factors internal to the laboratory that you will need to consider in
making any changes to the system?
The internal factors that are essential to consider in making changes to the laboratory
system are well-established quality management system that is significant for a functional
and quality laboratory as it stimulates an efficient workflow and outcome, effective
communication is also critical so that misunderstandings can be prevented, competent
workers in the laboratory needs to be considered as well on the grounds that it fosters an
aligned workforce and establishes a quality performance. Lastly, the usage of durable
materials in building laboratories is also an internal factor to be considered because using
the right material reduces maintenance costs.
