CONCEPT OF SCANDINAVIAN:

• Scandinavia is comprised of three Northern European countries:

• Denmark,
• Norway,
• and Sweden.
• Finland and Iceland.
• It first came to prominence in the 1950s, around the same time as modern style took
hold in America and Europe. Part of what makes it so aesthetically pleasing is its
lack of clutter.
• Scandinavian interior design is a minimalistic style using a blend of textures and soft
hues to make sleek, modern décor feel warm and inviting. It emphasizes clean lines,
utility, and simple furnishings that are functional, beautiful, and cozy.
SCANDINAVIAN THEME:

Scandinavian design is marked by a focus on:

• Clean
• simple lines
• minimalism
• and functionality without sacrificing beauty.
Scandinavians also deeply value nature and spending time outdoors
WOODEN FLOORS : tend to remain uncovered and lighter wooden tones are frequently found in
Scandinavian homes
LIVE PLANTS : are a popular choice when it comes to really bringing the outdoors in.
NATURE: Speaking of nature, Scandinavian winters are no
joke, so creating a cozy homestead is of the utmost importance.
That’s why you’ll find warm, inviting textures
WHAT ARE SC ANDINAVIAN COLOURS:

• Many Scandinavian colors rely heavily on neutrals,

• most notably,
• bright whites with pops of black and tan
• That’s not to say the style is completely devoid of color though, just that the overall
• spaces tend to be monochromatic, with hues coming into play as accent pieces.
• shades like blush and gray-blue are among the most frequently used.
• other nature-inspired colors like sage green pop up in Scandinavian designs as well.
• The monochrome colors are the major colors used in Scandinavian style.
• White or off-white walls are very ideal as they create a bright, clean backdrop.
• White, gray, blue, black, and cream color are the mostly using color in Scandinavian furniture.
ELEMEMTS OF SC ANINAVIAN THEME:

The main elements of Scandinavian design are:

functionality
simplicity
craftsmanship
natural materials
especially pale woods like ash and beech
wool and linen textiles
leather
glass.
CHARACTERISTICS OF SCANDINAVIAN:
It is all about strength
resilience
and balance.
FEATURES:

• Light:
• Because the winters are so long and dark,
• Scandinavian interiors are typically painted white to help keep spaces bright.
• When colors are used they’re kept soft and
• understated to keep the entire space feeling cohesive,
• uniform, and bright.
• Wood:
• Whether it’s on the floor, on the walls, used to make cupboards or toys, Scandinavian design includes a lot of wood.
But not just any wood will do. In keeping with their light theme, the woods used in Scandinavian design are usually
light woods, like beech, ash, and pine.
• Clean Lines:
• here isn’t a lot of ornate or excessive detailing
• found in Scandinavian design. Modern, clean lined,
• solid pieces are much more common, and are a
• defining feature of the Scandinavian design style.

FEATURES:
• Clutter Free Spaces:
• Traditionally, many Scandinavian homes were very small and didn’t allow for excessive amounts of stuff.
While homes are being built larger now and there’s more room for things, the idea of keeping a space free of
clutter and mess has remained an important aspect of Scandinavian design.

• Maximize Natural Light:

• Because it’s dark so much of the year in Scandinavian countries,
• natural light is an important thing to try and maximize. If any window
• treatments are used at all, sheer or translucent ones are favored to
• let in as much light as possible.

• Cozy Textiles:
• included are sure to double as both a functional and cozy
• provider of warmth, as well as a stylish way to add texture when it’s
• not being used.
