Foreword
This translation has been made based on the original Japanese Industrial Standard
revised by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, through deliberations at the
Japanese Industrial Standards Committee as the result of proposal for revision of
Japanese Industrial Standard submitted by Japan Testing Machinery Association
(JTM)/Japanese Standards Association (JSA) with the draft being attached, based on
the provision of Article 12 Clause 1 of the Industrial Standardization Law applicable
to the case of revision by the provision of Article 14.
Consequently JIS B 7728: 2002 is replaced with this Standard.
This JIS document is protected by the Copyright Law.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some parts of this Standard may conflict with
patent rights, applications for a patent after opening to the public or utility model rights.
The relevant Minister and the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee are not
responsible for identifying any of such patent rights, applications for a patent after
opening to the public or utility model rights.

JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD JIS B 7728 : 2013

Calibration of force-proving instruments

used for the verification of uniaxial
testing machines

Introduction
This Japanese Industrial Standard has been prepared based on the fourth edition of
ISO 376 published in 2011 without modifying the technical contents for the correspond-
ing parts, but adding some specification contents that are not given in the correspond-
ing International Standard.
The portions with dotted underlines and Annex JA are the matters that are not
specified in the corresponding International Standard.

1 Scope
This Standard specifies a method for the calibration of force-proving instruments
used for the static verification of uniaxial testing machines (e.g. tension/compression
testing machines) and describes a procedure for the classification of these instruments.
This Standard is applicable to force-proving instruments in which the force is deter-
mined by measuring the elastic deformation of a loaded member or a quantity which is
proportional to it.
NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the
symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.
ISO 376: 2011 Metallic materials-Calibration of force-proving instru-
ments used for the verification of uniaxial testing machines (MOD)
The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents
between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical),
MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/lEe Guide
21-1.

2 Normative reference
The following standard contains provisions which, through reference in this text,
constitute provisions of this Standard. The most recent edition of the standard (includ-
ing amendments) indicated below shall be applied.
JIS Q 17025 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration
laboratories
NOTE: Corresponding International Standard: ISO/IEC 17025 General require-
ments for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories (IDT)

3 Term and definition

For the purposes of this Standard, the following term and definition apply.

3.1 force-proving instrument

whole assembly from the force transducer through to, and including, the indicator
