ACTIVITY 2.2: Analyze the Author’s Purpose

An author’s purpose is the reason/s an author has for writing. Authors usually do
not tell their purposes, or reasons for writing. You have to figure them out. Read
the autobiography of Gregoria De Jesus and find out her purpose/s for writing.
Determine also the author’s main arguments. Watch out for the clues within the
text itself. Write your findings, observations and analysis in an essay format.

Gregoria De Jesus purpose of writing is to inform the readers all about her
life and what happened during her time, especially to her contribution of the K.K.K.
group. It tells us what truly happened to our heroes particularly to Gregoria De
Jesus, and Andres Bonifacio. Also to show the strength of our ancestors and the
sacrifices they went through in order for the Philippines to become an independent
country equal to Spain. She was a warrior of the revolution, but also a warrior of
love. She reflects the importance of giving one’s best in all endeavors, as a helpful
lesson and guide for both children and their parents.

As a woman in the Philippine Society, Gregoria De Jesus was one of a kind.

She was very strong and committed in what she was doing. She was a dedicated
and good leader in the Women’s Chapter of Katipunan in the Philippines. Gregoria
was assigned to be the keeper of the important documents and seals during the
revolution days. Gregoria is a very good example to every woman today in our
country because despite of being a woman she still made a name in our Philippine
History.

She is a symbol of bravery and a woman who values her principles. I believe
it takes a lot of courage and internal strength to do all the things that she has
done. She did not only play a big part in helping the Katipuneros, but I must say
that she somewhat founded it as well. Without her, things that the Katipuneros
are fighting for would be a waste and will not set awareness to other Filipinos. She
also brought strength to women that time wherein women are always portrayed as
weak or that they rarely contribute help in times like this. She has proved that it
every man's success there is always a strong woman behind him.

It is a shame that she never saw her dream of seeing “unfurled the flag of
an independent Philippines” fulfilled. But her fingerprints are undeniably found in
the most important episodes of the Philippine Revolution. She may not have written
any documents or led any armies, but there is no title more apt for her than
“Mother of the Revolution.”
