Corrigendum
The first author regrets that she made a coding error, which resulted in an undercounting of the reported prevalence of pre-adult
‘sexual contact against your will or rape.’ This was due to failing to count in the pre-adult number, respondents who reported that
they had experienced sexual contacts both before and after age 18. The correct prevalence rate, previously reported as 7.2%, is 9.9%.
The corrected prevalence rates for pre-adult sexual assault by gender and race/ethnicity are; Black women: 12.9% to 20%, Black men:
3% to 3.2%, Hispanic women: 15.7% to 25%, Hispanic men: 3.3% to 3.6%, White women: 19.4% to 34%, White men: 7.7% to 8.49%.
In the original paper, we reported a race/ethnicity difference among women in the association between depressive symptoms and
pre-adult sexual contact, which is no longer observed. The correct interpretation of the findings is that the association between pre-
adult sexual assault and depressive symptoms is significant and the same for all incarcerated Black, Hispanic, and White women in
the sample. In the original paper, we reported that; “the greatest effect on depressive symptoms of pre-adult sexual assault is observed
among African American men” (Pp. 1416). This observation remains valid. The authors would like to apologise for any inconvenience
caused.
