Writing: Key concepts

• Learners at primary level are not just learning how to write in


English, but also how to write letters and words.
• When writing encourage learners to think about what they are
writing and who they are writing to.
• Activities to help learners practice accuracy: gap-filling, sentence
transformation, divide texts into paragraphs, adding punctuation,
correct the errors, etc.
• Activities to help learners practice communication: story
completion, jumbled picture stories, writing birthday cards, writing
emails of invitation, etc.
• Work with models.
