Secondary Storage Devices

1. CD (Compact Disk)
CD’s full form is Compact Disk.
It is part of an external storage device. CD can
hold upto 700 MB of data. It is usually
connected inside the CPU box but can also be
connected using a USB port.

2. DVD
DVD has two full forms :
a) Digital Versatile Disc
b) Digital Video Disc
The DVDs have become very popular mediums
for storing information. They are widely used in
computers. There’s only one difference between
CD and DVD – DVD can store more data.
3. Hard Disk
Hard Disk consists one or more magnetic disks.
Each disk in the pack has top and bottom
surfaces on whih data is recorded using
magnetic head. Most important function of hard
disk is to store program and data files.

4. Pen Drive
Pen Drive is a portable hard drive and is easy to
use as it is very small. A pen drive has a storage
capacity upto 1 Terrabyte (TB).

5. Memory Card
Memory Card is commonly known as
multimedia memory card. It is very small about
the size of 1-1.5 inches. The are used in mobile
phones and digital cameras.
6. Blu-Ray Disc
Blu-Ray Disc is an optical disc. It is used for
storing large amount of data and playing videos.
