VIRTUAL MACHINE

What is virtual machine?
virtual machine (VM) is an operating
system (OS) or application environment that
is installed on software, which imitates
dedicated hardware. The end user has the
same experience on a VM as they would on
dedicated hardware.
Benefits of Virtual Machine :
● Reduced capital and operating costs.

● Minimized or eliminated downtime.

● Increased IT productivity, efficiency, agility and responsiveness.

● Faster provisioning of applications and resources.

System Virtual Machine:
A system virtual machine is a virtual machine that provides a complete system
platform and supports the execution of a complete operating system (OS). A VM
was originally defined by Popek and Goldberg as "an efficient, isolated duplicate
of a real machine".

Examples: VMWare
Advantages of VM :
- Familiar Interfaces

- Isolation

- Each OS Run Separately With Its Own Virtual Resources.

- High Availability

- If One Vm Server is Failed Then Easily Access Data From Another one.

- It Save cost By Running Multi Os On Single Machine.

- Sharing Of Hardware.
Disadvantages of VM:
-Difficulty in direct access to hardware.

-Great RAM consumption since each virtual machine will occupy a separate area
of the Same.

-Great use of disk space, since it takes all the files for each operating system
installed on each virtual machine.

-A virtual machine is less efficient than an actual machine when it accesses the
host hard drive indirectly.
