PHYSICAL FEATURES

2.1 Geographical Disposition

Lifting 4.5 TMC of water from river Godavari near Kaleshwaram to irrigate 45,000 Acres in
upland areas of Mahadevpur, Kataram, Mahamutharam and Malhar Mandals in Manthani
Constituency ( Not covered in SRSP Command) and supplying drinking water to enroute
villages. The proposed site is located about 260 km from Hyderabad, 162kms from
Karimnagar district Head Quarter, and 17 km from Mahadevpur Mandal Head Quarter,
towards North east side from District Head Quarter and Northwest side of Mandal Head
Quarter.

It is proposed to construct an intake structure for the pumping station one with approach
channel from the river Godavari on right flank near Kannepally Village.

2.2 Geology of the Basin:

The Proposed project site falls in erstwhile Karimnagar district can be divided geographically
into two parts, the western part consisting of the Peninsular granite complex with minor
bands of Dharwarian rocks and the eastern portion comprising the Purana- sedimentaries
(Pakhals and Sullavais) occurring as strips running in a general north – west, south – east
direction and also the Gondwanas with coal bearing formations.
