Positive Effects of GMO to farming, Society, and Consumers:

1. Help farmers control weeds without damaging the crops because of the GMO crops that are
tolerant to herbicides. Since herbicide-tolerant crops do not need to till the soil, which they
normally do on conventional crops to get rid of weeds.
2. Allow farmers large and small to grow more crops on less land while using fewer pesticides and
less water.
3. GMO products have associated an increase in off-farm household income as more efficient
production practices allow farm families to pursue other sources of income. Efficiencies
associated with biotechnology increase farm incomes and free up time to pursue education or
hold other jobs.
4. GMOs keep food affordable for the consumers. Since it requires less water and fewer chemical
applications than conventional crops, and they are better able to survive drought,
weeds, and insects. That’s why, farmers can have more reliable harvests and can sell it in a
cheaper price at the market.
5. GMOs make better fruits and vegetables that cost less, offer better nutrition because of the
enhanced nutrient composition and food quality, and maintain postharvest quality longer, which
would be a great benefit to the people and the society mainly in underserved neighborhoods
and food deserts.
6. GMOs crops could contribute to food production increases and thus improve the availability of
food at global and local levels that help lessen the society’s food insecurity especially on less
fortunate communities in the world.
