1. Discuss the role played by the Qu’ran itself in effecting reforms in the
family law of Tunisia and Pakistan.

2. Discuss the duty of the husband who repudiates his wife to continue to
maintain her in traditional Sunni and Shi’i law and the current law of
Egypt, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

3. Compare and contrast the rights possessed by a wife in a misyar and


in a mut’a marriage.

4. “A daughter’s right to inherit is more extensive under Shi’i than under


Sunni law.”

Discuss.

5. “The mother of a child can never make decisions regarding its


upbringing. This is the responsibility of the father.”

Discuss.

6. Explain and discuss why too many women are choosing to divorce
their husbands by a judicial khula when a divorce of faskh would have
been available.

7. “There is no right to freedom of contract under Islamic law.”

Discuss.

8. “Islamic law treats homicide as a tort rather than a crime.”
