introduction Our postal wrapping machines are designed to cope with that all important last minute mailing rush. ‘Among the many advantages are: The solid construction, the perfect finish, rapid size adjustment, reliable transport system and high capacity. The Planitold, for instance, is able to fold and wrap up to 9,000 items per hour. Of course she can do less: her lowest speed is 1,800, zaandam planifold operation Easy tot handle. Only two unskil- led operators required. sizes Extensive size range. Large, small, thick catalogues, very thin folders, all run perfectly. Sizes of 10x 8 cm (3!/10” x 31/s") up to 30x40 cm (11%/4" x 153/4") with a thickness of half a millime- tre (020°) up to 4 om (1"/10") magazine feeder Magazines are fed by a shuttle- type feeder employing pushers and suction, a8 used on other ZAANDAM machines for many years Adjustment of thickness, length ‘and width by conveniently placed controls ensures very quick changeover time. The magazines are fed continuously from the feeder by loading from the top and feeding from the bottom of the pile, and there is almost no down time as the stock of wrappers lasts for nearly one hour. Detection devices ensure that when there is no magazine, no wrapper will be fed. wrapper feeding Approximately 7,000 wrappers can be loaded into the hopper feeder. Loading time, about two minutes. Capable of handling all types of wrapping paper. A friction roller takes the wrapper from the pile and an ingenious system prevents double sheet feeding, meeting the highest re- quirements without delay in pro- duction, Se ° Lp D or ste] folding unit The Plenifold is not only a flat wrap machine, as the Plano, it can fold as well as wrap. In the folding unit, the magazines are folded over by a set of guides. These have been designed with con- siderable care and the folding pressure is preadjusted. All fold- ing parts are mirror finished. The length of this unit is such that the fold is always parallel to the spine. Before wrapping a soft or round fold is made in the book, end this, can then be compressed into a sharp fold gluing unit All ZAANDAM. machines use quick-drying cold adhesive for gluing the wrappers. This means the machine is always ready for use. There is no warm: ing-up time and the job is a clean one. A double glue line is applied to the wrapper by a single glue wheel. Adjustment _ for amount of giue required can be made whilst the machine Is run- hing. The glue wheel can be ad- justed to any wrapper width. The Complete unit lifts out of the ma- chine for easy cleaning in water. wrapping unit Behind the glue wheel there is a funnel folding system by means of which the wrapper is folded tightly around the magazine. A set of friction belts tighten the wrapper afterwards. Each indivi- dual friction belt is adjustable in order to obtain both the correct tensile force and tensile pressure. Finally adjustable pressure rollers press the glued seam. adjustment For adjustment of thickness and width, only @ minimum number of settings ere neces- sary, To further ease of set- ting-up, the machine is supplied with a remote control inch but- ton complete with 35 metres (11’) of cable. sorting table With the machine there is a seperately driven sorting table with adjustable speed drive. The standard length of this de- livery is 1.5 metres (5°), but it can be supplied longer by re- guest, in 1 metre (3’4”) lengths. The sorting table (shingle con- veyor) can be placed either in line with the Planifold or at a left or right angle. Convenient for any situation. Slight variations in book thiok- ness or width are only natural. These will cause no problems, ‘8 the design of the transport and pressure rollers, equipped with telescopic springs, com- pensates for any variations. addressing The high wrapping speed of the Planifold is not its only asset. To fully utilise the potential output, a labelling device can be coupled to the machine. This consists of a book transport and synchronise- tion unit with labelling head. This head is controlled by @ photo- electric cell which by impulse feeds a label to the wrapped pro- duct, Le, no book, no label This unit can also'be extended by fitting a turnover device enabling the label to be placed on the glued seam of the wrapper or on the reverse. the plano All that has been said about the Planifold applies to the Plano, ex- cept that you can not fold the ma- gazine prior to the wrapping ope- ration. buhrs-zaandam bv holland automatic pre-sorting The ultimate in this production line is the ,Town-separator” which operates as follows. The address labels have been printed in order of postal area The last label for each particular area has a special code mark. The presorter reacts to this and a sig- nal activates the apparatus which provides a distinct separation be- tween the wrapped books of the various postal areas. This sepa- ration can be, for example, a co- lour mark. \VARIADRESS lak p.o.box 92, vredeweg 7, zsandsm, phone 02080-2 31 55, telex 14587 ZAANDAM - Piano ling head on ZAANDAM-PLANIFOLD Magazine sizes minimum mm in (folded) (mm) (in) maximum mm in (folded) (mm) (in) thickness range mm in Wrapper sizes minimum maximum Speed range Drive motor pump Mains supply Machine sizes width length length with labelling device length with labelling and turnover device height of book feeder Shingle conveyor length width height Machine weight (without optional attachments) planifold folding and flat wrapping wrapping 160" x 220 100x 80 Gis x B/s Bho x 3s (100 x 220)" = (Bis x BF) = 300 x 400) 300 x 400 113fa x 158/6 18/4 x 15%/s {130 x 400) — (St/s x 184/4), i. 05°-8 0s"—40 020*—.315 020°—1#/16 80x 220mm = 3t/s”x_8F/s"" 400 x 655 mm = 15%/a" x 254s" 1,800—9,000 copies/hour 3HP 2HP 220/380 V, 50 c/s, 4 kw 1,19 metres = 3'9” 6,11 metres = 20° 6,82 metres 7,97 metres 0.95 metres 1.50 metres 0.50 metres 0,85 metres 1,500 kg = 3,300 Ibs * Dependent on the characteristics of the product.
