4. There are 5 questions for you to answer.
5. Take picture of your answer using portrait mode, make sure it is not blur.
6. You don’t have to answer the question by order as long as you put the number correctly.
7. Make sure your hand writing can be read. If I can’t read it, I won’t give any score.

Answer the following questions correctly and clearly.

1. Alika wants to test the presence of starch in green leaves. She follows an instruction given by
her teacher. This is the instruction.
1. Pluck a small leaf from a plant that has been exposed to strong sunlight for a few hours.
2. Place the leaf in boiling water for one minute.
3. Turned off the Bunsen burner. Use forceps to gently remove the leaf from the hot water.
Place the leaf in half-filled with alcohol.
4. Place the boiling tube contining alcohol and leaf in hot water for ten minutes. This is to
remove the chlorophyll from the leaf. Use forceps to remove the leaf from the boiling
tube.
5. Soak the leaf in hot water to soften the leaf.
6. Place the leaf on a white tile. Place a few drop of iodine solution on the leaf.
7. Observe the colour of iodine solution.

However, Alika has some problems during this experiment. The iodine solution should
change from brown to blue-black. But in her experiment, the iodine solution doesn’t change
colour. Alika remember that the day she plucked the leaf is a rainy day. Suggest a reason
why the iodine solution doesn’t change in colour. (20 points)

2. Celine observed two rose plants. Plant A produce more roses flower than plant B. She found
out that in plant B there are some caterpillars. What do you think is reason why Plant B has
less flower than Plant A? (20 points)

3. There are many types of aquatic plants. It depends on the place where it lives. Floating
plants has some part (usually leaves and flower)
above water. Explain why do floating plants have
long roots? (20 points)

4. Mai Lee placed a stalk of sunflower into a beaker of water with


red ink. After a day, she cut a thin section of the sunflower
stem and checked for the area that were stained red.
