Format for Plant Design Report No.

1
(This report describes the proposed facility and location, product lines and plant capacity, process flow,
and equipment selection and layout)

Cover Page:

Project Report Summary Page: Follow the Written Report Format provided in ChE 62.

Content:

1. Introduction
Explain what this report is all about: what it is, why it is done, what it is for, what is expected of this report,
overview of the plant location and layout report etc.

Provide a background information about or a summary of the proposed project based on the revised design
report completed in ChE 62. See example below:

The facility shall manufacture <product/s> for markets in <expected market location/s>. It shall be
located in <proposed location> and shall employ <expected number of workers> workers. The
<product> shall be manufactured at a rate of <projected annual production rate>.

2. Facility Location
Present the methodology by which the choice for facility location is made. Identify 3 alternative
location sites and discuss how the final choice was made. In a CONCISE manner, discuss the
MAJOR factors that led to the selection of this site. Situate the facility using Google Map and describe
this location. A vicinity map should be provided.

3. Production Operations
The process flow diagram of the facility and its production layout should be described in this section.

3.1 Overall Plant Layout

The overall plant (macro) layouts should be presented, along with JUSTIFICATIONS on why these
layouts or designs were chosen. Present an activity process chart or a relationship chart to justify
your layout or design. Layout should be provided in consideration of the topography and area of the
chosen site. Layout should be drawn to scale even if the facilities are presented in a schematic
diagram only.

3.2 Process Description

Present at this point a description of the proposed process, which should be supported by an
appropriate quantitative process diagram, depicting materials (products and non-products) and
energy flows (as finalized in ChE 62). Summary of the materials and energy streams should also be
presented in this section. Production schedules or gantt charts should be presented to support
capacity requirements.

3.3 Manufacturing Process Layout

The overall plant (macro) layouts should be presented, along with JUSTIFICATIONS on why these
layouts or designs were chosen This subsection should also DESCRIBE the MAJOR production
equipments to be used at manufacturing facility as well as the diagram and lay-out of the equipment
to support the space allocation in the process layout. The layout should be drawn to scale and adhere
to technical drafting standards.
