Task 1 – Insights from Rita F. Pierson TED talks “Every kid needs a champion”
Yes, there should be more policies protecting and motivating educators.
Over the years of teaching, some of the educators are tired and demotivated. Although, teachers play an essential role in everyone’s life, society expect much of everything on us yet receives little honor, respect and salaries. Hence, we know that these things will pass, even though it will count a thousand of years, money and public acceptance is never our reason to continue this noble profession. Furthermore, educators are the one who pass on the exceptional torch of power on today’s education to our youth by giving the simplified logical and abstract concepts, each of it has wisdom essential to live a life worthy of the calling. We also give moral support and encouragement to students for them to be prepared on their future industry work. We are one of their closest companions that influence them. In conclusion, we are their champions. Here in the Philippines, educational systems are very weak maybe that’s the reason why we are ranked as one of the lowest literacies in Asia. Furthermore, teachers have no security and protection because our laws and educational policies for teachers are lacking and has hole on it. As a result, most teachers are very demotivated and work lowly from what is expected. In fact, as we read the “Magna Carta for Public School Teachers” you’ll be bombarded with such responsibility. Digging deeper, the ratio of our responsibility being compared to professional protection and security is very low. I really agree with the speaker Rita Pierson, I am displeased with such educational policies that doesn’t make sense at all. But regardless of these things, I know I am called to teach, love, encourage and empower our future generation. If I will be given a chance to suggest to our Department Leaders or to our beloved legislative bodies to work on the financial literacy policies, educational incentives, policies on drop outs and retentions, policies on child protection and enhancing the teaching/classroom management capability of the educators. These things are very relevant to uplift the morale of our educational industry. Students and parents are being so spoiled, uneducated and degrading because the policies for protection and security that suppose to develop the child is now used as a weapon to tolerate them. Although, teachers are not perfect but they deserve the highest respect for being so gracious and noble in accepting or responding to this calling.
