1. What is the importance of safety management system in engineering workplace?

The importance of safety managements system in engineering workplace is that it is an integral part in
ensuring safe operation in the workplace by regulating various control measures for the facility or
workplace thus preventing, reducing and mitigating possible risks in the operation.

Learning Activity Number 2

1.How to perform job hazard analysis?

JOB – OPERATING LANYARD HEAT PRESS MACHINE

TASK POTENTIAL HAZARDS CONTROLS(INCLUDE REQUIRED PPE)

2. What are the harmful effects of hazardous energy? Give examples

Workers servicing or maintaining machines or equipment may be seriously injured or

killed if hazardous energy is not properly controlled. Injuries resul

ting from the

failure to control hazardous energy during maintenance activities can be serious or

fatal! Injuries may include electrocution, burns, crushing, cutting, lacerating,

amputating, or fracturing body parts, and others.

Activity 3

1. How to prevent electricity hazards?(10pts)

Reducing the threat of electrical shock.
• Do not work alone
• Remove watches, rings, earrings, and other conductive jewelry.
• Wear safety glasses (prevents injury from shrapnel)
• Do not stand on wet or metal surfaces when working on circuit.
• Do not handle instruments if your hands are wet.
• If possible, do not work on energized circuit.
• Remove power when connecting test equipment.
• Do not assume the power is off. Always shut off power and discharge capacitors
before touching circuit.
• Tag out/lock out power supply to prevent inadvertent application of current to
the circuit. Know the location of emergency shut off.
• Keep the workspace clean and orderly.
• Always inspect test equipment and component under test for damage.
• If you must probe a “live” circuit:
o Avoid contact with terminals of power supplies.
o Be careful not to allow the test leads to cross components.
o Keep cables and wires as short as possible.
o Connect the point with the highest voltage as the last step.
o Pay attention- do not touch the bare metal of the probe.
2. What is fall protection?(10pts)
Fall protection is the use of controls designed to protect personnel from falling
or in the event they do fall, to stop them without causing severe injury. Typically, fall
protection is implemented when working at height, but may be relevant when working
near any edge, such as near a pit or hole, or performing work on a steep surface.
But fall protection is more than equipment. Fall protection is also what you do
to eliminate fall hazards, to prevent falls, and to ensure that workers who do fall
don’t die.
