Violence against children takes many forms. Some of these, such as
trafficking or organised sexual exploitation receive extensive media coverage. Others are more insidious and less easily identifiable. Violence against children occurs in places that should be havens for children, such as the school, the family or in residential institutions thus, the so-called "circle of trust". Violence is often shrouded in secrecy.
Violence against children is a human rights violation and in spite of the
many international and regional treaties that protect children's rights, violence against children remains widespread. Violence can deprive children of their well- being and the ability to learn and socialise normally, and it can have devastating effects on their adult-lives.
