Relay Division Coral Springs, FL Allentown, PA For Detection of Ground Faults on Lines, Transformers, and MultiWinding Machines Device Number: 32N. Descriptive Bulletin ‘41-263E Poge 1 Types CWC, CWP, and CWP-1 Directional Ground Relays ‘Application The CWC, CWP, and CWP-1 relays are applied for directional ground fault protection on rounded neutral power systems. Typecwe The CWC relay is currant polarized. The relay develops torque proportional tothe product lof the polarizing and residual currents and the cosine af the phase angle between them. “The CWC relays recommended at stations ‘where the power transformer bank neutrals Grounded. In such cases the residual voltage ‘nil generally be smal Type CWP ‘The CWP relay is voltage-polarized by resid ual voltage obtained across the open corner fof the delta winding of a grounded mye Golta voltage transformer. The relay dovel. ‘ps 2 torque proportional to the product of the polarizing voltage and the residual cur Tent and the cosine ( 60] where the 0 is the angle by whieh the selay current lags the relay voltage. ‘The CWP relay is recommended for use where the power transformer bank neutral is not availabe, Type cwe-1 ‘The CWP-1 relay is similar to the type CWP relay except thas higher sensitivity. ‘The relay is applicable for selective alarm or tripping for systems where the ground fault current is limited to a range of about 0.2% 10 8% of rated fll load current. The system must be high-rosistance grounded because Of the maximum torque angle characteritic Of the CWP-1 (maximum torque when cur rent leads voltage by 45") Construction D top Bock Volt-amperes indicated on tap plate represent {the minimum pickup produet of residual eur rentand polarizing voltage at maxirnuan torque angle.
