PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT 12 WEEK 3 QUARTER 1

Portfolio Output No. 9: MY STRESS SIGNALS

1.) How do you know that you are stressed?
My body tends to normally alarm me if I am undergoing extreme conditions that
put heavy tension on me. They occur as symptoms like headaches, cold hands, and
rapid breathing and heart beats, as well as emotional turmoil from lack of
concentration, anxiety, anger, irritability and depression.
2.) What stress signals do you have that your partner does not have?
 Emotional stress signals like anger, anxiety or feeling of helplessness usually
happen all at the same time inside my head. This makes my stress experience
unique compared to my partner who is inclined to behavioral signals.
3.) How much stress do you think you are currently under?
 I am currently under heavy stress due to our school works.
4.) How are your stress signals different for different types of stressors?
 Mild problems like the thought of doing homework or choosing which meal to
buy only bring about short term anxiety problems. Trying to meet the deadline for
multiple projects and homework, and losing something valuable usually trigger
numerous stress signals may it be physical, emotional or even behavioral.
5.) What are some ways that you usually remove or reduce the stress that
cause you physical, emotional or behavioral difficulties?
One of the ways I use to alleviate or reduce my stress is by taking a breather every
once in a while. Pausing for a while and letting your mind relax and think is the
best way, I think, in order to combat stress. Taking it all in only worsens the
condition and makes you take wrong decisions. Understanding the situation and
taking it one at a time is not only an unselfish act, but an effective one too.
Looking at the bright side always is another way to ensure that not every situation
gives you stress.

Music

Listening to music is one of my stress reliever. Music provides a beacon of

hope in dark times. I love listening to music as a way to make myself feel better or
to relax.

Sunset

It gives me a reason to go outside. They don’t call it magic hour for no

reason. Taking just a few minutes out of my day to experience some of the breath-
taking moments of a sunset makes me happy and forget about my worries.
Reading

Reading books and fictional novels helps me feel relaxed and escape reality,
it allows me to enter the book that I am reading and be the heroine. It can provide
an escape from boredom or stress. Plus, reading has been shown to help us better
understand and interact with other people, keep our brains sharp, expand our world
views and grow as individuals, Green says. “Stories allow us to feel connected
with others and part of something bigger than ourselves.”
