Chapter 2; page 3/5
The gearbox serves for transmitting the power from the motor to
the generator. The motor speed is increased to the required speed
of the generator.
‘The gearbox has superimposed shafts with one protuding extension
each, The output shafts on the top
The breaking pin coupling is mounted on the extension of the input shaft
The ol supply is installed opposite to the extension of the input shart
Fitters, manometers and pressure switches forthe minimum pressure
also form part of he oll supply. The oll cole is mounted on the gearbox.
‘The design of the gearbox and the relevant part numbers are shown on
the spare parts drawing
The casing is of three-piece, stress-free annealed welded design and
fitted with inspection hole cover and breather.
The power trasnmission of the gearbox is ensured by one helcial gear
stage. The pinion and gear wheel are made of case hardened steel
The tooth flanks are ground,
‘When the gearbox is stopped the toothing can be inspected through
the opening of the inspection hole cover.
Al shafts are supported in amply dimensioned roller bearings. The
‘axall clearance specified on the spare parts drawing must be observed
during assembly.
Each of the shaft passages is sealed by one shaft seal ring. A grease-
filled groove seal is provided in the cover behind the seal rings.
‘This groove seals must be fled with grease every time the gearbox
thas been cleaned and disassembled.
Use only ithium saponified grease having a worked penetration of

Heating up of the gearboxes will be diferent in accordance with the
‘operating conditions,
‘The usual permanent oil bath temperatures related to an ambient
temperature level from 0° to 30°C will amount to approx. 50? to 90°C.
‘The permanent oil bath temperature of gearboxes with ralling element
bearings and mineral oil lubrication must not exceed 100°C. If higher
temperatures occur, @. g. due to higher ambient temperatures or external
heating, special measures must be taken,
It might be possible to use sythetic oll in such cases. Their effect on the
internal painting and the seals must be taken into account!
Ambient temperatures below -10°C require the use of controlled heatings
and / or of suitable lubricants,
‘The basis for the thermal layout of the gearbox are the operating data
stated under *2.1 Technical Data’. In the case of a change of the operating
data the Eickhoff Power Transmission Technology should be consulted,
All screws and nuts are tightened with the specified tightening torques and
secured by Loctite "LV*, The internal screws are secured by Loctite "SV"
The screws must be thoroughly cleaned and re-installed with Loctite "LV"
after every disassemly, Use of Loctite according to 915 Ad,
For the tightening torques MA of the screws, please see the spare parts
drawing of $71 Ad (chapter 6, drawings and tables)

41.2 Installation and Alignment
Installation
With the exception of hollow-shaft gearboxes the gearbox is mounted on.
a level and rigid foundation and ited by means of the foot screws in the
foot ofthe casing.
‘Any distortion ofthe foundation is not admissible.
The contact surface of the gearbox foot must be well set on the

The oil filing and oil draining openings as well as the oil level indicator
must be freely accessible,
In the case of fan-cooled gearboxes unhampered air circulation must be
ensured on the suction and pressure sides.
When the gearbox is installed synchronous operation with the motor must
be ensured,
‘After the installation the gearbox must be secured against axial

The alignment of the gearbox, ofthe drive motor, the driven machine and
the connecting elements must allow for toubletree operation,
“The admissible deviations regarding angular and axial displacements of
the auxiliary units supplied, e.g. couplings, must comply with the
‘specifications of the respective manufacturer.
Additional loads due to incorrect alignment reduce the service lite and may
result in the premature failure of the gearbox.
The installation of the gearbox in an inclined position is only admissiblo,
after the explicit agreement with the manufacturer.

Attachment to the
Foundation
‘The foot screw sizes are stated on the dimensional drawing. Moreover,
the necessary tightening torques for the different screw sizes and material
‘qualities are stated in table 571 Ad.
Ifthe gearbox is subject to external forces it must be pinned to the
foundation or secured against displacement by stops.
Inthe case of shaft mounted or hollow shaft gearboxes a torque
support must ensure the flexible absorption of the reaction torque,
rigid connection is not admissible because this could damage the
bearing of the gearbox or the machine shaft,
Alter the completion of the assembly the damaged painting must be
retouched to ensure corrosion protection,
Unfavourable Ambient
Conditions
Gearboxes which are subject to heavy dust, dir, water, effects of heat or
other unfavourable environmental influences must be protected by linings.
413 Shaft Connections

422 Measures prior to the first run
General
Before leaving the EICKHOFF works each gearbox is subject to atest run,
Reversing operation is only admissible aftr an explicit agreement with the
manufacturer.
Prior to Starting Operation
Before starting operation it must be checked whether the gearbox is
correctly secured and whether the guidelines given in the preceding
sections have bean adhered to,
Rotating paris must be secured.
In the case of forced feed lubrication it must be ensured that there is a
sufficient oil pressure.
When the gearbox has reached its operating temperature the oil pressure:
‘should be in the range from 0,5 to 4 bar.
Oil circulation is monitored by a manometer, contact manometer, pressure
controller or flow controller in accordance with the order.
‘The water pressure of gearboxes with oll coolers should not exceed 8 bar.
In the case of gearboxes with oil heating the gearing oil must be heated
before starting to approx. + 10°C at low ambient temperatures.
This also applies to any existing additional oil tanks.
Running-in Period
A gradual increase of the gearbox load over several hours up to full load is,
recommendable,
During running in the oil and bearing temperatures should be cbserved in
accordance with the measuring devices provided.
