Nowadays, the Global South is used as a shortcut to anything from poor and less-developed

countries to oppressed and powerless. The phrase "Global South" refers broadly to the regions
of Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.

We will examine the characteristics of the global south about the relations in social conditions
of the Philippines. But first, what are the possible characteristics of the global south? The
characteristics of the global south are the following; turmoil, war, conflict, poverty, anarchy,
and tyranny. Okay. First, let's start with one of the characteristics of the global south, the
war.

World War II started on 1 Sep 1939 – 2 Sep 1945. The Philippines had suffered great loss of life
and tremendous physical destruction by the time the war was over. An estimated 1 million
Filipinos had been killed, a large proportion during the final months of the war, and Manila was
extensively damaged. This conflict causes the economy of the Philippines to be down and
converted into poverty. Another one is tyranny. When the Philippines was colonized by the
Spaniards, the type of their government is autocratic sovereigns whose rule was absolute. They
use fear and control to gain total power over their people. Often, the Philippines is left destitute
as a result of their actions and also they were not given the benefits of public education and
their rights and wishes were almost completely ignored. The priest in that time has the power
to dictate an order that must be obeyed. So, that's why most of the Filipinos in that time are
slaves and illiterate in the hands of Spaniards.

Time passed by, the Philippines was slowly developed and have its government which is called a
democratic government that we influence by the United States of America when we colonized
by them.
