THE CIRCLE

What are the technologies depicted in The Circle? Give at least 3 and describe them.

ChildTrack, SeeChange, PastPerfect, SoulSearch and Media band are the technologies shown in
the movie, “The Circle”. SeeChange is like a small camera and is somehow similar to what we call closed-
circuit television or CCTV. It plays a great role in the society because for example if a thief enters a house
protected with SeeChange cameras, due to the its power to camouflage, the thief will have no idea that
the policemen are already monitoring him and are coming to that area. Also, it records nature’s beauty
like waves and etc. A person who has SeeChange camera in the Circle is called transparent wherein all
people who have Circle account can watch the things he/she do every day. SoulSearch is like a
SeeChange camera wherein the cameras are the loyal people all over the world who uses or has their
Circle account. The people can hunt down murderers or criminals which is a good thing but the story is
different when it comes to people who are innocent and doesn’t want to get involved in The Circle
world. Media band has a great contribution when it comes to health. A person will take his/her medical
intake, a liquid that circulates throughout the person’s body and will be the one who’ll directly monitor
the person’s health. Media band can detect a person’s heart rate, blood circulation and many more.

2. If given a chance, would you choose to live and have a job inside the Circle? Why or why not?

Having a job wherein you’ll to help the society specially the people on it is a very great pleasure
and honour. The Circle is one of the perfect examples I can think of. If I’ll be given a chance to work in
The Circle, I’ll consider first the advantages and the disadvantages of it. There are many advantages (in
the movie) that the Circle has brought to the society like helping or rescuing a person in need and
capturing a criminal through the help of loyal people all over the world (Soul Search). But, despite of
these advantages, I consider the word PRIVACY. Since it was shown in the movie that people living in the
Circle doesn’t seem to have Privacy because of the SeeChange, I think I’ll just choose not to work in the
Circle. There are many things that that world must know but there are also some things that you,
yourself has to deal alone.

3. Do you agree with the following statements of the characters?

a. “Knowing is good but knowing everything is better”

- No. I think I might connect this to “curiosity”. Because of curiosity, we gain knowledge,
information, and data and yes, it is a good thing because I believe that learning is a basic right but I
answered no because there are some things that needs to be kept personally. Personally because we all
know that every person is unique, every one of us has a different behaviour. Not all people will
understand how you feel and what your problem is so sometimes it is better to know the things you can
know and the things you cannot.

b. “Secrets are lies”

- Yes, secrets are lies. Secrets are the best and common example of lies. But, keeping a
secret can somehow be good or bad. It depends on the situation if keeping a secret can resolve a
problem or it will just add things in the fire.

4. To what extent can computer and technology affects the lives of humans? Expand your answers by
giving one benefit and one drawback.

Technology is very significant in our economy today and so to us, humans. The main purpose of
technology is to make the things we make easier. Xerox copy machines, printers, computers, Wireless
fidelity, cellular phones, televisions, and satellites are some examples of technology. Computers and
phones are used for communication and printers and Xerox copy machines are used for education and
business purposes. Even though we know what technology is intended to, we push ourselves to do it in
a wrong way. We sometimes forgot what technology is used for. For example, due to the advance
technology, a certain account can be hacked and can be used against the user.
