Assignment #8: Laws and Morality

Moral and legal rights are made, generally, to protect the welfare of the citizens. They provide
set of rules for the purpose of organization. However, they are not the similar. In my own
understanding, legal rights are based on the needs of every citizen that are from written laws. Citizens
who violate the laws have corresponding punishments. On the other hand, moral laws are individualized
laws that are based on the culture, religion, and personal values. Being right and wrong depends on this
law.

Imagine yourself in a situation where you see an unattended smartphone in a place where no
one is around. You hesitate on picking it up fearing that someone may come on the moment you pick it
up. You wait a few minutes and finally decide to pick it up. If we use legal rights as a basis, you are on
the wrong as it is against the law. However, if we use moral rights as a basis, considering the hardships
we experience in life, we may say that it is morally right to take the phone.

Now, we can say that human laws are made to be moral. But, due to unforeseen circumstances,
it is seen to be immoral.
