CONTEXT CLUES
Context clues are words that appear in sentences
to help understand the meanings of difficult
words.
These may be found near the difficult word or in
the next sentence that comes right after it.

CONTEXT CLUES
SYNONYMS
A similar word is placed in the same sentence to know
the meaning of the unfamiliar word.
Examples:
1. The society expects opulent personalities ─ those who are rich and
wealthy ─ to do charitable works.
2. It is common for Filipinos to feel compassion or pity for the suffering
of their fellowmen.
3. The teacher punished Nemo for his duplicity and deceitfulness after
discovering what he did.
ANTONYMS
The exact opposite of synonym; the word is given an opposite
definition to uncover its meaning.
Examples:
1. Instead of continuing their opulent lifestyle, some millionaires prefer
to live in underprivileged and disadvantaged societies.
2. Among the siblings of thin body structure, Isabel is the only one who
is portly.
3. Unlike his brother who had integrity to spare, Nemo has nothing
more than duplicity.
EXAMPLES
