Reflection #2

Handling adult learners requires teaching from what they already know. In your own words,
explain your understanding of the saying of Socrates, " I cannot teach anybody anything, I
can only make them think."

In my own understanding, when Socrates says that "I cannot teach anybody anything, I can
only make them think," it means that knowledge can not be passed from one person to
another. No one can educate another person unless they want to learn. If a person is willing to
learn, he or she can do so without the help of a teacher. One can learn a lot by studying
nature. One can learn a lot by observing people and their lives around him, reading good
literature, and from personal experience. Self-thinking should be established for this. By self-
thinking and right conception, the knowledge we gain can be turned into wisdom. Life should
always be questioned, and each answer should lead to another.
