SUMMARY

This work was done on 90 adult male albino rats of local strain to
study the effect of administration of mangefeira indica (Mangeferin)
extract and administration of curcuma longa (Turmeric) extract on obese
adult male albino rats. 80 rats were exposed to special fat diet regimen
for 45 days for induction of obesity. After fattening period, rats were
divided into 4 equal groups:

 Group I (10 rats): Control non-obese group, not exposed neither

to turmeric extract nor mangefeira indica.
 Group II (10 rats): Control obese group, not exposed neither to
turmeric extract nor mangefeira indica .
 Group III (10+10+10 rats): Obese group, exposed to mangefeira
indica extract Mangeferin orally for 21days.
 Group IV (10 rats): Obese group, exposed to turmeric extract in a
dose of 50mg/kg/day for 4 weeks.

At the end of the experimental period, rats were anesthetized by

ether then blood samples were collected (2 ml of blood for each) from
the retro-orbital plexus using heparinized capillary tube (0.75-1.0 mm
internal diameter) inserted in the medial canthus medial to eye globe,
then the following parameters were measured: (Blood glucose, serum
HbA1c, C-peptide, cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and HDL).

This study revealed that, obesity caused significant increase in

blood glucose, serum HbA1c, C-peptide, cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL

and HDL as compared with the control group.

Admenistration of curcuma longa extract caused significant

reduction in blood glucose, serum C-peptide, cholesterol,
triglyceridesand LDL levels. In addition, it produced insignificant changes
in serum HbA1c and HDL levels as compared with the control obese
group.

Physical activity caused significant reduction in blood glucose,

serum C-peptide, cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL levels. In addition, it
produced significant increase in serum HDL levels. On the other hand, it
produced insignificant changes in serum HbA1c levels as compared with
the control obese group.

This study also revealed that, physical activity caused significant

reduction in serum cholesterol and LDL levels. In addition, it produced
significant increase in serum HDL levels. On the other hand, it produced
insignificant changes in blood glucose, serum HbA1c, C-peptide and TG
levels as compared to group of tars administrated curcuma longa
extract.
