Instruction:
1 Divide the class into groups of four and allocate one student as the TV presenter and
the other three as guests on the show.
2 Explain that students are going to act out a TV show about going green.
3 Give out a copy of the role-cards to each group. Give them time to read through their
role-cards.
4 Revise reflexive pronouns myself, yourself, ourselves, each other, etc. from Lesson 24,
eg. I myself didn’t use to watch television a ot. We wash our clothes ourselves. My
{friends and | cook for each other.
5 Give students ten minutes to act out their radio show. Encourage them to be light-
hearted and embellish their conversation,
6 When everyone has finished, get whole-class feedback on their use of the target,
language.
7 Finally, choose a group of students to act out their show in front of the class or, if
possible, get students to record their programmes.* -
Student A
You are a TV presenter on a breakfast show. Today you
are talking to members of the public about how they have
made their lives ‘greener
You have invited three guests to come on the show and
talk about their green lifestyles. First of all, you must
introduce the show and the guests.
Start the programme with:
Hello and welcome to the Breakfast Show. As word leaders
‘re meeting this week to discuss reducing corbon emissions,
we will be talking to three guests who have their own ideas
about how to go green. ! would like to welcome

television or play computer games).

listening to your MP3 player

You are an office worker in a ‘green’ office. You started a
campaign in your office to make it a greener place.

+ only fill the kettle with enough water for yourself

+ collect your own water for offce plants using a water butt

+ keep yourselves warm in winter by wearing big jumpers
instead of turning the heating up
+ bringin a glass and a cup for yourselves so you don't need

~ Give out the worksheets. Elicit the answer for statement 128,
an example. Explain that (by) themselves is sometimes used
instead of himself/herself when the singular subject is a
‘Word like someone, no one, one person.
~ Give the students 3-5 minutes to complete the statements
before checking with the whole class.
~ Divide the students into pairs to discuss whether they think
‘each of the statements is true or false about the class. They
record their answers in the Your guess column.
~ Explain that the students are now going to find out whether
the statements are true or false. According to the size of your
class, allocate the statements so that each student has one,
‘two, or three statements to survey.
Elicit an example question, eg One person hates looking at
‘themselves in the mirror.~ Do you hate looking at yourself in the
‘mirror? Check students know how to use anyone to ask about
statements with each other, eg, Two people inthe class live
rnext door to each other ~ Do you live next door to anyone in the
class? Give the students time to prepare their question(s).
~The students mingle and use their question(s) to survey
everyone in the class and complete the Survey results column.
~ At the feedback stage, go through each statement to find out
whether itis actualy true or false. Ask the students to give
‘examples to back up what they say.Can you prove it?
