Preparation
Copy and cut out cue cards ~ one set for each
group,
Timing
20-40 minutes
Procedure
1. Invite a student to ask you ‘How are you?"
Mime ‘Not too good’, to show that it’s bad
news, then mime crashing your car to elicit
the ‘I've crashed my cat’ sentence. The first
student to come up with the sentence gets the
card, After the demonstration explain the
rules:
‘+ The game starts off with one of the team.

* The person with the card must be silent
and explain the sentence with gestures.
‘+ The first person who says the complete
sentence gets the card.
2 Put the students in groups of four or five and
give each group a set of cards face down,

the top of the pack, to mime and elicit the

Follow up
Another competition can be played. Someone in
the group takes a card and reads the news to the
rest of the group. The group members take it in

Materials: Four copies of the worksheet, cut into cards
To prepare for the activity, make enough copies of the
worksheet to provide three or four cards per student. Cut up
the cards, then shuffle them all together. Distribute three or
four cards to each student. Tell Ss not to look at each other's
cards
Review the language for giving good and bad news and
responding to it from unit 6.3. Give Ss a few minutes to think
about how they wil tell people theit good and bad news, then
ask them to walk around and share their news with other Ss
Encourage $s to respond using the expressions in unit 6.3 and
ask follow-up questions. When they have finished, elicit some
