Machine Learning for E-mail Spam Filtering: Review, Techniques and Trends

This paper discusses about the machine learning for E-mail spam filtering. Continued
studies must address the reality that e-mail spam filtering is a co-evolutionary issue, with
spammers attempting to outsmart the text classifiers while the filter seeks to improve its forecast
accuracy. As a result, a good strategy must develop a workable technique for detecting spam that
evolves over time. The traditional type of detecting spams method is not workable anymore.
Luckily, machine-learning based solutions has been developed by the people nowadays. These
solutions allow the system to learn itself and deal with the newest spam techniques by different
spammers. The authors of this paper have discussed about few machine learning approaches to
deal with the spam messages. However, in an era of rapidly changing digital technologies, there
are no perfect answer for e-mail spam filtering because the spam techniques are evolving over
time. Studies show that every machine learning method has its own shortcomings. Anti-spam
research will continue to be a hot topic until spam filtering improves further. (Bhowmick

Implementation of Naïve Bayes Classification Method In Predicting Purchases

This research studies about prediction of purchases using the Naive Bayes Classification
Method. Basically, the researchers use Naïve Bayes Theorem to predict the car purchase with
some criteria datasets. These criteria include price, spare parts, cylinder volume, resale price.
From the findings of the researchers, Naïve Bayes method has a 75% accuracy on predicting the
purchase of a vehicle. This accuracy is considered as a very good result for a machine learning
implementation in a human decision making. Human decision making is always unpredictable
before but not now with the usage of machine learning algorithm Naïve Bayes. The improvement
for future studies is that the researchers should get more training dataset as this model only uses
20 dataset which is considered as very less for a training set. A higher amount of training data set
can increase the accuracy of the study field. In a nutshell, this study focuses the usage of Naïve
Bayes Classification to make prediction of something. In future studies, the researcher can
implement same concept on different field such as economic field, technology field or even
medical field. Especially in medical field, there is a lot of decision making while dealing with a
patient. A decision made by a machine learning algorithm might be better than the human
decision making because machine can deal with data well while human does not.

A Survey of Existing E-Mail Spam Filtering Methods Considering Machine Learning Techniques

This paper summaries the spam filtering system by using algorithms. Different
algorithms have different results. From this paper, we can know that the accuracy and
performance of each algorithm. The purpose of this study is to find the best solution for E-mail
spam filtering. However, the authors of this paper use different datasets for different algorithms
accuracy test. In my opinion, for fair test, the authors should use same datasets to test different
algorithms accuracy. Some have positive outcomes, while others are not quite effective and
attempting to develop a new method in order to increase their rate of accuracy. The authors are
trying to mix several algorithms to increase the accuracy. The process is still on going and
developing for a better spam filtering method. For now, The “Nave Bayes” and “SVM”
algorithms are the most effective machine learning algorithms, with the capacity to better
classify email spam. (Bhuiyan,2018)
