In the contemporary era, it is undeniable that education plays a significant role

in people’s development. Consequently, there has been a controversy

whether competitive sports should be discarded from school curriculum or not.
From my perspective, regardless of its impacts on children’s aggression and
distraction, I disagree with the statement.

To begin with, it is understandable why some people subscribe to the view

that competitive games should be eliminated. First and foremost, having
competitive physical activities distract students’ study due to the fact that
spending a huge amount of time on sports may make students have less time
to study. As a result, their academic performance is decreasing which is the
top worry of parents. In addition, playing competitive sports may lead to bad
behaviours among children. On the grounds that some students are
aggressive and desire the victory whatever it costs, they cheat by harming
their opponents.

On the other hand,  I am of the opinion that competitive sports have numerous
benefits for the development of students. A primary advantage is that it offers
children with good physical and mental health. Playing competitive activities
not only enhances their body and muscles but also improves their mind since
these sports need strategies to win. Take football as an example, students
have to arrange positions of players to boost their best potential. Furthermore,
competitive sports also help students build up a team spirit and bring benefits
for student’s social well-being. When taking part in competitive sports, children
will work with their teams which forces them to make friends, talk with others
and cooperate with other team members. Therefore, students' teamwork will
be improved and develop their communication skills.

In conclusion, although competitive sports have some adverse impact on

students, I believe that it should not be removed from school curriculum with
its undeniable benefits regarding health improvement and fundamental soft
skills.
