Special tools and workshop equipment required

Multimeter e.g. hand-held multimeter -V.A.G 1526E-

Multimeter -V.A.G 1715-

Pickup clamp e.g. pickup clamp -V.A.G 1526B/2-

Note

Plug-in connectors for fuel lines must engage »audibly«


when joined.
Note colour assignment when installing the plug-in
connectors → Anchor
Ensure plug-in connector is secured properly by pulling.
Separate plug-in connectors → Chapter.

– Observe safety precautions → Chapter.

– Observe rules for cleanliness → Chapter.

– Observe safety precautions when working on natural gas


system → Chapter.

– Fold rear seats forwards.

– Release carpet under seats, and fold it to rear →General


body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70.

– Remove cover -1- under rear bench seat.

– First, ensure that connector is fitted securely by pulling it


without pressing catch.

– Using pick-up clamp, connect multimeter -V.A.G 1715- to


red/green wire to fuel pump control unit.

– Run engine at idling speed.

– Measure current draw of fuel pump.

Specification: max. 9 amps.

The starting current for the fuel pump can lie briefly above
specifications when starting the engine.

Note

If the fuel system malfunction is intermittent, the check can be


performed during a road test, but a 2nd person is necessary.

If the current draw is exceeded:

– Fuel pump is defective; renew fuel delivery unit → Chapter.
