Question #6- Dinner Party Metric Conversion

Dessert Recipe- Sopapillas

INGREDIENTS

2 cups all-purpose flour: 1cup= 237mL 2(237)= 474mL o fall-purpose flour

1½ tablespoon real butter: 1Tbsp= 15mL  1.5(15)= 22.5mL of real butter

½ cup of water: 1 c= 237ml  ½ = .5  .5(237)= 118.5mL of water

¼ cup milk: 1c = 237mL  ¼ = .25  .25(237) = 59.25mL of milk

1½ teaspoon sugar: 3tsp = 15mL  15mL/3tsp= 5mL/tsp  5mL(1.5)= 7.5mL of sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder: 3tsp = 15mL  15mL/3tsp= 5mL/tsp  5mL of baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt: 3tsp = 15mL  15mL/3tsp= 5mL/tsp  .25tsp( 5mL)  1.25mL of salt

Toppings:

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

Honey

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Add all the dry ingredients in a kitchen machine and pulse

2. Then add the butter and run the kitchen machine until you get a coarse dough

3. Now add the milk and water and run the kitchen machine. In a matter of seconds, you get a soft

dough

4. Take the dough out of the kitchen machine. Knead by hand for a couple of seconds

5. Cut the dough in half and put half of the dough on a lightly floured board. Roll with a rolling pin

into a circle

6. Cut the circle through the middle and then into 4 triangles. Repeat for the second piece of

dough. You will yield 16 wedges

7. Preheat a big pot to 375℉ with vegetable oil, filled about ⅓ of the pot

8. Fry 2-3 sopapillas at a time until golden brown for about 2-3 minutes. Turn the sopapilla and fry

the other side. This will take about 1 minute

9. Take the sopapillas from the pan with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel

10. Cool slightly while you combine the cinnamon and sugar

11. Sprinkle the sopapillas with the cinnamon sugar or drizzle with honey
