A fossils is the preserved remnant, impression, or trace of the living organism from the past

geological age. Fossils are grouped into two major categories, the body fossils and the trace fossils.
Body fossils include the preserved remains of plant and animals. While on the other hand, trace
fossils are the indirect signs of life that give evidence of the organism’s presence such as footprints.
The fossilization is the process of remnants becoming fossils. It is a rare process that occurs in some
sedimentary environments. To fossilize an organism, the remnants usually need to be covered by
sediment after they die. Fossilization can help a specimen to preserves its original form and texture.
Among many methods, this group includes organisms that have been frozen, preserved in tar pits,
and mummified. There are some cases that the insect are trapped by the tree sap, it is called the
amber. The tree sap forms a protective seal around the entrapped organism and when the time past,
the soft resin or sap hardens and will turn into amber. This procedure creates a biologically inert tomb
for the organism, letting its soft tissues to be preserved.

There are some fossilization process that change the specimen as its being preserved. The
transformation of soft tissues into thin films of carbon are called the process of carbonization. As a
matter of fact, layers of carbonized plant materials combined together to form a coal, a well-known
fossil fuel. Per mineralization occurs when minerals from the grounds water enter the pores of the
dead plant or animal material. When the time past, the minerals attach themselves to the cellular
walls, forming a crystalline network in the empty pores. This process will harden the bones and turn
into stone. Per mineralized wood often contains enough information to identify its species. The
insects that wrap up ion amber have been preserved very well and the footprints of the ancient
hominids that left behind is can help to figure out what life was like for early human ancestors millions
of years ago. For every fossils that exposed, the earth’s history becomes clearer and coherent to us
human that living today’s life.
