This course surveys major Buddhist doctrines. It will
examine Buddhist traditions from both South and East

기독교의 사상을 크게 중세와 현대로 구분해 본다. 중세에서
는 Thomas Aquinas 이전과 이후로 나누되 특히 Aquinas와
그 이후에 중점을 두고 유명론적 사상으로 바뀌어간 경로를 추
구한다. 그리고는 Martin Luther와 John Calvin을 중심으로 한
종교개혁까지로 연결시킨다. 현대에서는 개신교의 사상으로 자
유주의 신학, 신정통주의 그리고 신자유주의를 살피되, 카톨릭
교회의 경우는 제2 바티칸 공의회를 중심으로 한 변화를 연구

신화의 형성과 신화적 사고의 특성을 고찰함으로써 특정한

들을 연구하는 과목이다. 특히 1∼6세기 초대 교부들의 문헌을
살펴보고자 한다. 이 시기는 그리스도교 신앙의 발전에 결정적
인 역할을 했고 교회의 많은 기본교리의 특성을 부여하여 후대
그리스도인의 신앙과 사상의 기준이 되었다. 초기 기독교가 자

This course provides a basic survey of the history of
early Christianity from the first to the thirteenth century
of the Common Era, with special emphasis on the patris-
tic period of the first six centuries. This period is crucial
to the development of Christian faith, as basic parame-
ters of many of the key doctrines of the Church were

mative influence on Christian life and thought. Many of

새로이 개설하고자 한다.

만든다. 그러나 불교문헌들은 불교를 이해하기 위해서라면 반드
시 거쳐 가야 하는 화두이다. 그러므로 이에 관한 강좌를 개설
함으로써 불교문헌에 대한 이해는 물론 불교 자체에 대한 이해
를 심화시킬 필요가 있다.

는 종교의례는 체계적으로 다루는 과목이 없다. 그러므로 이 과
목을 신설함으로써 종교제의는 물론 종교 자체에 대한 이해를

This course explores the nature, structure, and func-
tion of ritual in religious life. It includes an analysis of
the different types of ritual such as sacrifice, communal
worship, festivals, rites of passage, prayer and medi-
tation as well as a study on the ritual’s sacred time and
space.

현대사회의 변동은 유래가 없을 정도로 광범위하고 그 변화
속도도 매우 빠르다. 이러한 변화 속에서 종교는 사장된 문화로
고착화되지 않기 위해 부단히 현대사회의 변동에 적응하려고
노력해 왔다. 그러나 현재의 과목과정에서는 현대사회의 변동과

In this course students are asked to engage in critical
analysis of key themes and figures in contemporary crit-
ical theory and cultural studies. In addition it will also

주제를 정해 놓고, 그들이 상호 교섭하며 펼치는 다양한 역학관
계 구조를 탐구해 본다. 종교가 독특한 현상인 것만이 아니라,
문화 내의 현상이며, 문화를 형성하는 근원 동력임을 인식할 수

This course explores interpretations of the structure
and practice of sacred phenomena, including embodi-
ment, symbol, narrative, myth, ritual, architecture, tech-
nology, and power, all in the cultural context. Readings

and understand its characteristics, culture and history.
Special emphasis will be put on approaching Islam as a
religion. Students in this course will study doctrines,
practices and sociological features of Islamic religion in
terms of relevant contexts, including its relation with
other western (monotheistic) religions and traditional
hermeneutics of sacred literature. Contemporary issues
such as militarism, theocracy, suppression of women and
clashes with modern western values will also be dealt
with.

본 강의는 한국에서의 종교학 연구들을 체계적으로 검토하여
한국적인 독특한 종교학을 정립시키기 위한 세미나이다. 특히
구한말 이후 본격화되어 온 서양인, 일본인, 한국인들의 한국종
교 연구들을 원자료를 중심으로 정밀 분석 검토한다. 해방 이후
한국종교 연구의 범위 설정과 각종 연구의 심층적 유형화 및
학제 간 창조적 인식과 종교 전통 간 조화적 이해들을 수렴하
여 한국적인 종교적 재평가의 기준을 마련하고자 한다.

Seminar in Phenomenology of Religion
종교학의 중요 분과 중 하나인 현상학을 통해 인간과 종교현
상의 만남 구조를 해명하며, 현상의 존재론적 구조와 현상에 대
한 해석학적 사유 방식을 익힌다. 또한 종교유형과 상징에 대한
탐구를 통해 비교연구 및 상징체계 연구의 기반이 되도록 한다.
종교현상의 본질이나 가치에 대한 물음보다는 현상의 의미에
대한 해석을 시도함으로써 해석학적 현상학의 인식론을 살핀다.
그밖에 현상의 다층적 의미를 분석하여 문화현상 속에서 종교
현상이 차지하는 위치를 조망해보고, 상호간의 접합 지점을 고
찰한다.
This course intends to train students in phenomenol-
ogy of religion, one of the major fields of religious
studies. Students will study how human beings react to
religious phenomena so as to understand the ontological
structure of religious phenomena. They will be trained in
hermeneutic approaches to religious phenomena, that
look into meanings, rather than a priori essence or val-
ue, of religious phenomena. Equipped with the knowl-
edge on the epistemology of hermeneutic phenomenol-
ogy, students will analyze layers of meanings of religious
phenomena, examine their significance in cultural milieu,
and figure out the interactions between religious and
other cultural phenomena.

하는 데 많은 도움을 줄 것이다.
Students will conduct an active and applicable re-
search about religious themes in this course. This class
will also be honing their general research skills such as
interviewing, field work, analysis, and writing.

하고 있는 방향을 살펴보는 데 역점을 둔다.
The students of this class will study the religious di-
mension of philosophy and, in reverse, the philosophical
dimension of religion. This relationship will be examined
from a cross-cultural perspective.

한국종교에 관한 문헌자료를 수집⋅정리하고 이를 해석함으
로써 한국종교의 특질과 흐름을 이해하는 기초를 마련한다. 본
강좌에서는 한국 고대로부터 현대에 이르기까지, 그리고 원시
및 고대종교로부터 현대 신종교에 이르기까지 한국종교사의 주
요한 특성을 보여주는 종교사상 및 종교의례 자료들을 다루되,
기타 문헌 이외의 자료를 적극 활용한다. 특히 본 강좌에서는
국내외에 산재하는 한국종교에 관한 1차 자료와 2차 문헌들을
체계적으로 수집하고 이를 정리하여 한국종교 연구의 토대를
구축한다.
This course is to provide the ground to understand
the characteristics and the history of Korean Religion by
means of collecting, classifying and interpreting texts on
Korean Religion. It deals with various materials including
important texts from the ancient to the modern ages,
and from primitive religions to contemporary new reli-
gions, that show the main religious ideas and rituals of
Korean Religion. Emphasis will be put, in particular, on
the training in systematic collection and appropriate us-
