1) Sketch a series of horizontal lines ranging in weight from very light to very dark between the given end points. Method: Use only the HB lead for sketching, Start by sketching the set of very faint construction lines with a sharply pointed lead Round off the pencil point and sketch over the construction lines Apply increasing amounts of pressure to obtain the increasing line weights, (You may need to rotate the pencil slightly to keep the lineweight constant along each line), Very Light Refer to "Sketching Straight Lines” page 40 of Engineering Graphics. Note: Sketch = totally frechand - no rulers or other instruments! Very Dark 2) Use the back of this sheet to sketch vertical, horizontal, and inclined lines over the this exercise is to practice sketching long lines. Rotate the sheet to a comfortable of each, Use dark lines as determined by the previous exercise, area of the sheet. Lines may cross. The object of Tips: Use only the HB lead for sketching. Sketch very faint construction lines first. Pause at intervals along long lines whenever you need to adjust your arm, Rotate the p ightly to maintain a constant line weightthickness.
