EVALUATION

Context
A classroom observation is a formal or informal observation of teaching while it is taking place in a classroom or
other learning environment. Typically conducted by fellow teachers, administrators, or instructional specialists,
classroom observations are often used to provide teachers with constructive critical feedback aimed at improving
their classroom management and instructional techniques. School administrators also regularly observe teachers
as an extension of formal job-performance evaluations.

Rationale
Faculty members are evaluated of their performance based on a 360 degrees’ evaluation, which includes Self,
Peers, Students and the Academic Supervisors (Chairs, Deans, VPHE, and members of the Instructional
Supervision Team (IST)). Academic supervisors should periodically evaluate the classroom and non-classroom
performance of faculty members. These include the following:

 Peer evaluation is done once every semester by at least two peers of the concerned faculty member.
 Self-evaluation is also done once every semester by the faculty member.
 Peer- and Self- evaluations are submitted to the department chair who makes a summary report including
the results of the student and supervisor evaluations to be submitted to the school/college dean for collation
and record keeping.
 Performance evaluations serve as a basis for promotion, retention, and termination of faculty.
