BY JESSA MAE POGOY PHOTO BY JEMINA BAROLO The existence of Novel Corona Virus (COV- 1D-19) really had so much impact to most of us. Itis an unprecedented phenomenon that has adversely affected the holistic aspects of soci- ety. It caused so much distress to people- physically, socially, spiritually and mentally. It is undeniable that this problem brought fear to us. Up until now, most of us are afraid to trust someone or something related to the problemit times, being afraid is inevitable. Aydin E. (2020) posits that the responses of in- dividuals to challenging living conditions can manifest as shock, panic, acute stress, post-traumatic stress disorder, grief disorder, anxiety disorder and depression. Because this phenomenon is the most challenging health crisis we have experienced, it is just normal to have fear, for what we want is our safety and the safety of everyone around us. However, de- spite such feeling to be "normalized" in the so- ciety, we still do not have sufficient reasons to challenge the solutions provided by health experts, which are ultimately aimed at pro- tecting the lives of the general public. Yes, fear is there, but to remain afraid in the midst of change would not solve this underlying prob- lem. As such, if we want to regain the life we had in the pre-pandemic time, then it would be better to listen to what the experts want us to do. Moreover, aside from those many proto- cols mentioned by experts, being VACCINAT- ED is the most prominent thing one should do. However, in the Philippines, only 39.12% of the Filipinos are fully vaccinated If we compare this number to other countries, this is alarmingly lesser. It may seem so sad, but itis the truth. In light of these shortcom- ings, we conducted an interview on some of our fellow Technologians to explore their sides and to gain some insights on the accounts of VACCINATION. The endeavor strives to assess the gravity of the situation to benchmark problems and develop solutions for far-reach- ing uncertainties. Apparently, the committee provided two options for the Technologians to answerThese options include questions for those who have already been vaccinated and for those who have not. In every option, there were corresponding questions given.. In fact, for those who have already been vaccinated, their questions include the reasons why they chose to be vaccinated VOL1| PAGE 6 IS feat Leen J Basically, the questions revolve more on how the vaccination process was completed or performed. On one hand, the second option's questions include the reasons why they have not been vaccinated and an evaluation whether they have plans to be vaccinated. To put things into context, the result of the re- sponses resembled each other. There were those who answered the questions from the option of those who were already vaccinated, but there were also who answered those questions from the option of those who were not still vaccinated. For those who were already vaccinated, most of the reasons why they chose to be vaccinat- ed circulate around the fact that it is the most appropriate thing to do. For instance, one of our respondents have elaborated the interplay between ethics and vaccination through the following statement: “The fact that it is the ethical and the right thing to do is what pushed me to get vacci- nated. If | get vaccinated, I'm protecting myself and the people around me. Science has proven it so | believe in it.” Such a response from Mr. Gumandoy speaks for the majority because other interviewees have also recog- nized how important it is to safeguard oneself to protect the community. Many experts be- lieve vaccination is the ideal solution to miti- gate the problem, which is why they are en- couraging us to get involved. Our safety and the possibility of embracing our old lives again depend on this, so our inaction would be tan- tamount to prolonging our agony. On the other hand, several respondents have ex- plained why they were not vaccinated yet. ey dexter VOL1| PAGE 7 ru Bru vie ra ? Tia Fy ‘lpin Their reasons boil down to the unavailability of vaccines in their respective areas and the de- cisions that their parents have imposed on them. The latter reason may have stemmed from misinformation on social media about the dangers of the vaccines, most of which are hoaxes. Nevertheless, most of them still want to be vaccinated if they were ever given the chance. Thus, as many news about alleged vaccine-related deaths envelope the commu- nity with doubts, it is vital to equip ourselves with the ability to verify information. In doing $0, we can foster hope and not fear As COVID-I9 continues to develop, the ques- tions about vaccination become more signifi- cant. There are still a lot of people who have second thoughts on the effectivity of the vac- cines, especially here in the Philippines, rn rs Dai setyarn sage esce2 Most of the Filipinos wonder why there is still a continuous increase on the number of deaths related to COVID-19, and they often put the blame on the ineffectiveness of the vaccines. In spite of these circumstances, we should all remember that, before jumping to conclu- sions, it is better to assess first relevant and re- liable information to avoid creating harmful assumptions. In contemporary times, if proper mandatories and guidelines are being imple- mented, people would have no say on this. Yes, it is true that vaccines aré not 100% effec- tive; however, when it comes to the state's protection of the greater good in such extraor- dinary circumstances, vaccination looks to be one of the most effective and helpful safe- guards, Now, what are you waiting for?
