MACKIE 1604 SIGNAL FLOW REVIEW. Page 3 in the user's manual is the only thing you should read for a simple, practical example of level setting on the 1604. - INSERT, these 1 / 4" jacks are for connecting SERIAL effects processors (compressors, eqs, gates, etc.) - DIRECT OUT, found only on channels 1-8, deliver the signal from the very end of the channel path.

(All of this info can be found in greater detail in the 1604 User Manual...I highly suggest you get used to reading manuals)
- FIRST THINGS FIRST...Ph. TILE M FADPA...if you don't know what
this means by now, just quit while you're ahead! - Page 3 in the user's manual is the only thing you should read for a simple, practical example of level setting on the 1604. - TRIM adjusts the input sensitivity of the MIC and LINE inputs, allowing the signal to be brought to optimal internal operating levels. - INSERT, these 1/4" jacks are for connecting SERIAL effects processors (compressors, eqs, gates, etc.) - DIRECT OUT, found only on channels 1-8, these 1/4" jacks deliver the signal from the very end of the channel path. They are the key player in "split monitoring". - AUX SEND OUTPUTS, these 1/4" jacks usually patch to the inputs of PARALLEL effects devices, or to the inputs of stage monitors/headphone mixes...but you'll get to that later. - AUX RETURN INPUTS, this is where you connect the output of your PARALLEL effects devices (or extra audio sources) - ASSIGN (1-2, 3-4, L-R)...If you're doing a mixdown to a 2-track, simply engage the L-R switch on each channel you want to hear, and they will be sent to the MAIN MIX. If you want to create a SUBGROUP of certain channels, engage either the 1-2 or 3-4 switches instead of L-R and they'll be sent to the appropriate subgroup faders. - SOLO, this switch allows you to check signals through your PHONES output or your C-R OUTS, there are two modes AFL (switch up), and PFL (switch down) - MUTE, provides the same result as turning the fader all the way down, interrupts the signal to the channel. - PAN adjusts the amount of channel signal sent to the left versus the right. Pan also controls assignment to L-R, 1-2, 3-4 - 3 BAND EQ - LOW shelving @ 80Hz, with 15dB of boost or cut - MID sweep/peaking @100Hz-8kHz, with 15dB of boost or cut - HI shelving @12kHz, with 15dB of boost or cut - LOW CUT, often referred to as a high pass filter, provides low frequency roll off from 75Hz and below @18dB/OCT - PRE switch determines the tap point of the aux, either pre for headphone mixes, or post so your "wet" signal follows yor "dry" signal - 5-6 SHIFT changes aux 3-4 to aux 5-6. - CTL ROOM/PHONES, this knob controls the levels of both the stereo C-R OUTS and PHONES output - MODE button controls solo mode - YOU CAN ONLY USE 4 AUXES AT A TIME EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE 6 AUXES TOTAL - THIS SHOULD BE ENOUGH, THE REST IS UP TO YOU TO READ THE MANUAL, AND TO HAVE BOOKED THE TIME TO LEARN IT!!!
