NCIPR - National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights

Accomplishment Report:

We have secured a conviction in the case of People v. Sonny Federiso Reyes. He was caught selling
counterfeit USB flash drives with illegally downloaded Metro Manila Film Festival entries. We still have
two pending cases before the Metropolitan Trial Courts of Manila for 2 individuals involving the same
violation.

Last Tuesday, the US Embassy Manila Economic Section and OMB partnered together and conducted a
virtual workshop that focused on the best practices on Investigation of Online Intellectual Property
Rights Crime such as

 Identifying Online Criminals

 Strategic Evidence Gathering
 And Methods of Preserving Electronic Evidence from Third Party Providers

The lecturers are prosecutors from the US Department of Justice, International Computer Hacking and
Intellectual Property, US Embassy Manila Economic Section and Office of Overseas Prosecutorial
Development Assistance and Training and US Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics
Control and Law Enforcement Affairs.

More importantly, their offices offered a mutual legal assistance to OMB and to other participants who
attended should there be a Data Preservation Request to U.S Providers. Google, yahoo twitter.

Lastly, our OMB agents continued their enforcement operations in nearby provinces that are under
GCQ.

The OMB caught a big Subic based firm that is illegally selling laptops and personal computers.

We also inspected a publicly listed corporation with a state-of-the-art facility based I cn Clark Pampanga.
Apparently, the corporation is manufacturing and exporting storage devices without an OMB license.
The OMB is taking a closer look on their case as we contemplate on filing criminal cases against their
officers. We are weighing on the effects/repercussions if we temporarily close their manufacturing plant
because that would mean stoppage of work and loss of income for thousands of workers.
