Term Project

(Date due to Final Exam)

(Projects will be done as a group,

If your group copy from any other group, both of the groups will be graded as “zero”.)

Design a shell and tube heat exchanger to cool 30 kg/s of butyl alcohol from 370 K to 315 K
using treated water as the coolant. The water will enter at 300 K and leave at 315 K. In your
project, you have to indicate;
-the type of heat exchanger,
-tube side heat transfer coefficient,
-shell side heat transfer coefficient,
-overall heat transfer coefficient,
- the number of tubes, shells depending on the type of your heat exchanger,
-the lengths and diameters of parts of heat exchanger,
-overall heat transfer coefficient,
-tube side pressure drop,
-shell side pressure drop,
-the pitchs and baffles present in the heat exchanger.
