We recommend starting out at low volume until you test the capacity of
your playback system to handle the low bass tones of the larger bowls.
The better your sound system, the better this CD will sound. That might
be obvious in general, but even moreso on this recording. The subtle melodies
and nuances that are the result of the phase relationships between the bowls are
constantly shifting as the bowls continue to sing. The higher the quality of your
stereo speakers or headphones, the greater will be your appreciation and enjoyment
of the audiophile quality of this recording.
In the studio, we were amazed as the level of each microphone kept getting
louder or softer. Listen carefully, and you’ll notice that the location of the sounds
move from speaker to speaker. This is a natural occurrence of the aliveness of
crystal bowls, and not a studio trick.
Listening to this recording by yourself will harmonize and balance your
bio-electromagnetic fields and shift you into deep alpha brainwaves. Listening
with a group will align and entrain everyone to the same uplifting vibration.
Playing bowls with this recording will create an even more powerful coherent

1. STARGATE: INVOCATION – In 1981, I had the opportunity to record
inside the King’s Chamber of the Great Pyramid in Egypt. I brought my studio
engineer to professionally record the incredible sounds inside the Great Pyramid
and at other sites.* (The entire album, Egypt: Sound and Silence, has been
remastered from the original tapes and is currently available by special order.)
What you hear is the sound made by striking my fist against the side of what
is (erroneously) called the Pharoah’s sarcophagus. I then chanted the sacred man-
tra of vowel sounds that channeled thru me when I was recording ANCIENT
ECHOES with harpist Georgia Kelly in l978. It felt like a
homecoming; the walls began to vibrate as did I.
As I was completing this project, I was guided to overlay the magical
Egyptian Blue bowl, to link ancient and modern sound fields . . . As you
listen to the incredible reverb and echo, note how the combination of bowl and
stone resonate powerfully in your 3rd eye and crown chakras.
2. Golden Alchemy – Notice how the clear overtones of the Aqua 24K
Gold can be felt moving inside your head . . . Listen for the furthest away
tones . . . the tones behind the tones. (I call these etheric tones.)
4. infinity, sonic satori II and TIME BEING II – Focus on the pure
crystal tone as the music spirals up and around your body. Feel the low notes
in your lower torso and chest, and the high tones in your head.
5. Binaural entrainment – This is the most powerful example of beat
frequencies and sonic entrainment. The pulsating vibrato is a function of
the slight difference in frequency of these two closely tuned bowls. Use this
energy as a ‘sonic stargate’ to go deeply into the Silence.
6. tibetan/egyptian connection – About ten years ago, I came
across the most incredible Tibetan singing bowl I’d ever heard. Years later, its
caretaker, Thea Surasu, invited me to record this ancient healing instrument.
There is an amazing synergy between the ancient cultures of Tibet and Egypt
that is born of the harmony of sacred metal and crystal bowls.
Several tracks feature solo, duet or trio combinations. The blended
tones are especially useful to address issues of releasing and healing.
CRYSTAL BOWL HEALING: An Ancient Sound Healing Tradition
For thousands of years, hand-held crystal singing bowls have been played by
healers and musicians to alleviate pain and restore physical, emotional and spiritual
balance. Larger stationary crystal bowls were also used in ancient temples, homes
and gathering places. An Egyptian Faience crystal bowl (circa 1300 BC Thebes) is
on display at the Myers Museum of Eton College, UK, and is a testimonial to the
historical acceptance and use of crystal bowls. It’s the inspiration for Crystal Tones’
Egyptian Blue Bowl.
How To Deepen Your Experience of Crystal Bowl Healing
Set aside some time to create sacred space for your session. Invoke a sacred
time and space for your session. Speak or silently state your intention. Release your
intention or prayer on the sound currents of the bowl. Allow the sounds of this
recording to become the total focus of your intention as you listen.
Play Your Bowl Along With This CD
Gently hit or “chime” the outside of the bowl with a suede or rubber mallet
and begin a “sonic sounding” around the upper rim. This creates subtle or more
intense sounds according to the applied pressure. The larger the bowl, the deeper
the tone; the clearer the bowl, the brighter the tone. Individual preference is the
key. A combination of bowls can be effective for deep physical relaxation and
releasing emotional blockages.
You may also do “toning” with your voice using vowel sounds while playing
the bowl or while listening to this CD.
