Sudan and South Sudan Migration
Sudan and South Sudan Migration
Ms. Curran
October 7, 2020
Political unrest and economic unrest have caused many people to migrate from South
Sudan. Also it is really dangerous and people are frequently being killed. It is not safe for
anyone, but especially women who are being raped. There has been years of conflict in South
Sudan and it has become one of the poorest countries in the world. Not only is it violent but they
also have severe climate conditions. There is drought and they do not have access to food and
they cannot grow crops. Because of this they have nothing to trade. They are living in extreme
poverty.

Typical Destinations
Many have fled to neighboring countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Egypt and
Morocco. Some go to Europe and the USA, but it is relatively few in comparison.
Additional Notes
Because so many people are displaced, moving around and put in refugee camps, the
Displacement Tracking and Monitoring Unit of South Sudan started tracking people. They
collect stories and data. They also get fingerprints of all household members and photograph
young children and babies.
